I'm not sure if this is feasible at all with this particular forum engine, but I wonder if it was possible to add markdown support?

http://commonmark.org/ - here you can find a full explanation of what that is as well as a space where you can try it out and a java script implementation.
Basically it adds a bunch of convenient and intuitive ways to format your text without using BBCode or HTML tags.

Not sure how this works, working and shouldn't even be here so will read later   

But if it is a javascript thing, I personally feel the less java the better, regardless of benefits.

It's ultimately up to Christian though...
