Hi Kalle!

Is it possible to split the brightness-parameter in infinite waves to a black wave and a white wave? stuff gets too bright (for my taste) if you use more than one brightness wave.
this really would improve things.. and probably is relatively easy to implement..

level 2 of this would be: integrate colour waves into infinite waves by adding a colour dialog.
or maybe combine palette waves and infinite waves (and merge wave period?) into one big Waves-Section.

And: the moviemaker doesn't read infinite waves settings, so you have to manually copy them. it's ok, but would be much nicer if read automatically..

oh, and last thing:
When testing a video from a later start-frame, could you change settings so that it uses the real settings at that frame? (e.g. colour cycling starts at frame 50, but when I set start-frame to 50 and test it, it uses the value from frame 0 instead of 50)

And I just wanted to repeat: I still very much love your program. I keep coming back And keep discovering new possibilities resulting in beautiful movies. (will upload some soon again)

Cheers,
Chilli

If I understand you correctly, you only have to go level 2. If both the normal palette funcitons and the infinite wave things projects their results onto the same palette .. then you can just add 10% black every 1 step (on top of you're nice combination of infinite waves!).

I think the rest of the wishes were already in http://www.fractalforums.com/kalles-fraktaler/kalles-fraktaler-inofficial-wish-andbuglist/ .. not sure though.

Hi

Thanks for suggestions.
I've just uploaded version 2.6.3 with the possibility to blend the color palette with the "infinite waves" (via a checkbox named "Blend" in the color dialog).
I need to update the movie maker as well before it can be used in movies (and then perhaps make it read the kfr file also).
But you can have a try and see if it is usable.
And maybe it is not, because the more colors are combined, the more it goes greyish...

thx for implementing this!
it is not actually that useful for what I had in mind, but while playing around with a simple palette that has all bright colours in, expanded it several times and then added 50%black every second gave a very beautiful result! smiley
so I'd be happy to see this in the movie maker as well, as I'd really like to make a movie with that sequence..

the way this works now, you can't do that.
you would need an "opaque" colour, a blank colour in the colour select dialog, because if you don't have this, you will have to choose a colour for every other step, which will then influence the infinite waves as well, so no black waves at the moment.

I think we really need to borrow some blend equations from http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-concepts-layer-modes.html for stuff like that.

Another request I have, kind of related to the infinite waves bit, would be to set the seed value for Hue/Brightness/Saturation waves. For instance, no matter what numbers I choose (I tend to think sexy primes work well for this purpose with a triplet of primes of the form [b, s+6n, h+6n] n being a positive integer in case 1 results in the values being to close) it always starts off with muted turquise, likely due to all values b, s ,h being set to 50%.

Generally I prefer to start off with a palette using black or dark color for zero index. This results in dark areas surrounding the minibrot with colors getting brighter as you approach the set. I used this to great effect in my SandStone zoom video where I zoomed into an area so dense that the color progression had to be set extremely slow, rendering the initial Mandelbrot nearly invisible during the opening seconds:
http://www.fractalforums.com/movies-showcase-%28rate-my-movie%29/sandstone-zoom-into-the-edge-of-the-large-cardioid/5/?PHPSESSID=da6320e3abc34d862495620aa2b14fbb

If someone wanted to do purely grayscale waves, then saturation would need to start and stay at zero, otherwise you get alternating bands of muted turquise. Likewise if someone wanted to do rainbow bands, then saturation would need to stay at 100% while alternating the brightness and hue. I tried doing a rainbow effect without choosing saturation element, but the colors remained partially muted.

Maybe in a future build these controls could be set by selecting a value 0-255 for brightness and saturation, and possibly 0-360 for hue.

Also I kind of like the idea that we can tweak the colors to our hearts content when rendering zoom movies. I wish you would let us change the default palette as well (in case we want to use our own preset KF color palettes).
