Hi! I was hoping for my first post to be an image, but I need help getting there.

I'm having the hardest time getting my image to be clean.

I've read the tutorials I could find and watched some videos, but I still can't eliminate the noise.

I really like this fractal and want it to be my first mandelbulb 3d portfolio piece, which means I want to render it at 15000 x 9000.

I haven't bothered since I can't even get rid of the noise at 600 x 360!

I'm currently trying DE 1, RM 0.02, SL 0.01, SC 16, SN 8, normals on de is not checked, and first step random is.

I'm really not sure what to do.

I assume, the main problem in this parameter isn't noise - I don't see noise at all - it is aliasing ( the stairieness within the "side-pillows" and elsewhere). Noise means some grainieness. The aliasing seems to be a property of the used formula combination. You can reduce this by antialiasing a downscaled bigger render. The max useful ratio here is 1:3. I attached a parameter with increased raystep and stepwith values, that should do and a 1:3 scaling for a destination res of 960 x 576. Hope that helps.

Thanks it does help me understand what's going on.

Unfortunately it still doesn't look clean but if that's just the way the formula is there's nothing I can do about it.

There is always " post processing "

i like to use G'Mic for that
it used to be called "GREYCstoration"
it uses a heat flow PDE  to process the image

http://gmic.sourceforge.net/

the shell terminal version handles 32bit floating point images
or any of these data formats
{ bool | uchar | char | ushort | short | uint | int | ulong | long | float | double }

it is part of CImg.h
http://cimg.sourceforge.net/
