Short intro: name is Menno from The Netherlands and I have been using Mandelbulber for a while now, see for examples http://www.3dart4u.com/index.php?/category/5
But for a while I did not use it, latest version that I liked was Mandelbulber 64-bit-1.12.1. With that I could change colours in real time on the Mandelbulbs, also the random colours worked fine.
But now with the latest versions I can not anymore. I have tried Mandelbulber 64-bit OpenCL-1.19, Mandelbulber 64-bit OpenCL-1.21-1 and Mandelbulber-1.21-1 but all three have the same thing: I can not change colours?
I tried every setting I know but no matter what I do, the colours will not change. The random colour? Also doesn't work.

So I did install the 1.12.1 version again and in there it all works just fine: random and manually altering colours is no problem.
Could be that maybe I am missing something since I am behind a few versions? Or is it a bug?

System:
Windows 8.1 Update 1 Prof 64 bit
AMD Phenom II X4 980 BE CPU
16 Gb DDR3
MSI N GTX660Ti PE 2GD5/OC graphics card
All up to date, no overclocking.

I think 1.12 was the last version to have that colour function, as well as saving all layers separately. The colour in later versions is calculated differently and cannot be adjusted while rendering sad. Also a difference in colour can be seen when you open a 1.12 file in a later version (and you may have to adjust the simple fog to make it viewable.)  So best to keep 1.12 if you want to  render an old file.

So how to add/change colour(s) then? I mean, after a render is finished (or stopped) it is also not possible to change colours at all. Not on older, saved work but also not on new work. Things like DOF blur (and all other parts) do work fine though.

Didn't work there for quite a while, but I guess re-render works fine.

You're right among all the benefits of the open cl version Buddhi accepted a lot of backsteps since 1.12.1. I also miss some of them.

No, re-render also does nothing. Tried saving, re-saving, partly render, full render, re-render, and so on. Also other gradient, colour from JPG: nothing, I can change no colours what so ever. It is just like only the colours that were in the initial opening are there and it is impossible to change them.
And I did try the OpenCL but other then that it's faster I see no bennefit. So by the looks of it I also stay to use the 1.12.1 version.

I think I got it.
English is not my native tongue and misunderstood the re-render part. Thought it was more like rendering fractal, save it, open, etc.
Just found out that the order is: make fractal, do a partial render, do the color change, hit the render button and then you see the new colour(s).
I think Mandelbulber rocks ... but sadly this really makes no sense at all  sad I mean, when you change a color, you have to see what changes, right? Not doing a change and not able to see what has changed only after doing a complete re-render. This totally breaks the complete flow that made Mandelbulber the best.
So okay, really back to 1.12.1 then and maybe in the future the normal use of colour change comes back smiley
