Things are getting away from the main subject of the topic. This is good.

I will split this topic and we can continue on that separate thread. Just these few posts contain a lot of useful information for the moderators as well.

Conversations stray in real life, so no need to split every topic that diverges!

This is still a tangent from the main topic and not a total divergence.

I'd leave it alone...

Well, in that case - we are working on an updated set of "rules" and "posting guidelines" to help contain these sorts of messes!

One topic we are discussing in the moderator's forum is "how to properly make a bug report."

Since this topic is a shining example of how NOT to do so, maybe some folks here have some input for us as to exactly how we should phrase that bit in such a way that threads like this simply never go the way this one has gone.

I do not agree with hgjf2.
My point in quoting the earlier posts was to point out hgjf2's original intent of this topic. and so on ...

...so, back to the more important work...

perhaps refraining from unfounded accusations and sticking to reproducible bugs would be best
those compiling from source should cite the location of said bug, file name + line number
those relying on executables provided by others should list the steps required to reproduce the bug
if a bug exists only when running on one machine it's not necessarily a bug in the program and more likely a misconfiguration or inadequate system
determine if it's a bug or a complaint, bugs get fixed, complaints should get deleted because complaining about free software is inappropriate

just my 2 cents worth smiley

There are a couple points there not in our current phrasing!

They will be added.

Thanks for the input.
