A while ago I struggled with DE and got an idea: Imagine a multidimensional array with min_step values assigned according to some important parameters: escaping time, escaping radius, some derivative-like parameter, cummulative radius, number of special transformations, etc...
I tried to create this table with relatively small resolution by casting several thousands of rays and calculating the distances from the final point to each position on the ray. Many cells remained empty and I had to figure out a procedure to fill them by nearby values. At the end the min_step values were too small and I had to use my own formula despite occasional artifacts (I used high AA and correcting patches).
I belive the idea is still valid, probably for a higher number of dimensions and some statistical minimal value. I will definitely get back to that.
