just found this amazing website with a cellular automaton that assembles tiles into fantastic patterns that have a lot to do with fractals and with nature. it brings into perspective some shapes in fractals, where things assemble in crystalline matrices. and it could be made into fractals in many ways, i.e making each next tile 2% smaller for each following generation, do you think it could be turned into IFS?

have a look at images of rule 110 if you are wondering what that's about, but essentially I'm sure it can be replicated more simply just by making the tiles follow rules and having a random element. It seems like a great area for exploration because, it can be scaled larger and smaller in different spaces, it can be made 3d, for example you could fold the tiles into a sphere or box, instead of a plane, the rules can evolve over time. Animals and nature may use something fairly similar to decide their colours, for example colourful sea fish, pigments decide on their colour relative to the pigments of cells around them.

it looks much better if you have a high contrast button on your browser! probably more people would know about these if they had less of a dead sounding name. i'll call them propagatiles.
