This is the latest update (v0.62.2) to my attempt at a 2D Fractal Explorer program. It's nowhere near as advanced as the programs that many of you guys write and use to generate the fantastic pictures that I have seen on this site but I'm trying to improve it when I get the time.

http://www.dpw-shane.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/visualbasic.htm#chaos

It's written in Visual Basic which isn't the best language for something so maths intensive but it's what I'm currently most comfortable with, however it also means that it's Windows only at the moment (no mac version and I don't think it'll run on Linux either...but I'm not sure about that).

There are currently around 20 different Fractal/Chaos Types including the Mandelbrot set (with Burning Ship and Mandelbar extensions), Julia set, Newton-Raphson approximation, Buddhabrot, Sierpinksi Gasket, Dragon Curve, Koch Curve, Symmetric Icons, Quilts, Diffusion Limited Aggregation, Fractal Ferns and the Levy C Curve amongst others. Mostly these are interactive and zoomable although a few are just simple routines with little interactivity. The program includes anti-aliasing for some of the fractal types and all renderings can be saved out as various filetypes.

This isn't a finished product yet and I don't get a great deal of time to spend working on it but I am trying to work on improving the options for each fractal type at the moment and ironing out any bugs that I find. I only joined the board a week ago and I'm hoping that being part of this community will give me the inspiration to make this much better.

Any comments would be welcome but as I said at the beginning it's probably not up to the same standard as the programs you currently use (not yet anyway!!). It's not open source but I'll try to answer any questions that I can time permitting.

Shane

There's a new version of this out today. No new fractals just a bit of tidying and updating some of the options forms.
