Title: Beautiful natural pattern
Post by: Prokofiev on January 06, 2012, 11:30:08 AM
A beautiful photo just published by the National Geographic website. I couldn't let it go without sharing it with you.
It is a delicate pattern of a river drainage in a desert.
A classic fractal pattern, but this one is really awsome ! :surprised:

The site doesn't say anything about the exact location.
Enjoy !

Beautiful!
The site doesn't say anything about the exact location.
Actually they do. (http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/your-shot/weekly-wrapper/2011/img/)(just select "December-week 4").
It says "Desert of Baja California, Mexico.". I've attached a .kmz file of a location where you can see similar patterns. The google earth image I'm getting is quite old (2003) but I think the photo was taken not far away.

Thanks, knighty.
What is a kmz file, by the way ? how do you read it ?

Google earth uses .kmz files for geographic related multimedia data exchange (see this wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyhole_Markup_Language)).
If you don't have Google earth just download and install it. Then download the .zip file I've attached and just double-click the .kmz file it contains.  :D
