I generated this fractal using homemade software. It was colored by selecting pixels from an input photo: Landscape; Zion National Park (http://www.flickr.com/photos/proimos/3442920061/) by Alex E. Proimos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/proimos/) on Flickr. (Thanks to Alex for licensing his work with Creative Commons.)

The recurrence relation used to compute the fractal is one of Kali's ideas: z = abs(1/z) - 0.5 - 0.3*i, where abs(x + y*i) is defined as |x| + |y|*i. I employed GIMP to process the output image. The final artwork carries a CC BY 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/) license.
