Title: Fractals Exhibition
Post by: Johan R on November 08, 2011, 04:56:01 PM
We are planning a Fractals Exhibiton at the museum of Värmland in may 2012.

The museum of Värmland has 250 000 annual visitors.

The exhibition will be open for all visitors of the museum,
and special educational programs will be made for visiting shools.
There will also be at least one public lecture.

The exhibition room is 10 meters x 5 meters. The height of the ceiling is 3,2 meters.
The exhibition will contain:

Printed fractals
One interactive station (zooming or/and simple fractal software)
One looping HD movie
Information about the history of fractals

We hope to get artists from different countries involved and would
like to hear from you if you are intrested in participating.

We would also like to sell reprints of the art in our museum shop.

The bugdet is limited so we can't offer to buy art at any good price, but the idea for now is that
if reprints of your art is sold you will get a share of the profit.

We are also investigating the possibility of selling a DVD and/or Blu-ray disc.

Post in the forum or send me a PM if you are intrested in participating or have any ideas/comments.

Let me know if you see anything you like here: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=myimages;u=3195 (http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=myimages;u=3195). Some of them (not all, though...) can be printed at large sizes (say 90 X 60 or 120 X 60 cm). Dunno why no one has reacted yet, unless everyone is PM'ing you  :dink:

I've forgotten if I responded by PM or not - in any case just choose anything you like of mine and we can sort out getting prints done for te exhibition - best places to look at my stuff are:

http://makinmagic.deviantart.com/gallery/ (http://makinmagic.deviantart.com/gallery/)

and

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?user_id=40328 (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?user_id=40328)

I can sort out prints in 99% of cases at any size - including printed on canvas.

If you have an interactive zooming station, you might consider letting people print their own art.

It’s great to see such interest in our exhibition. Looking at your art makes me wish we had had bigger room.

I'm currently trying to find a good layout for the exhibition. I'll keep you all updated.

Hello Johan,
Sounds great. You can see some of my fractals here at: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=myimages;u=1414 (http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=myimages;u=1414) and many more at http://lariphotos.free.fr/fractales/mandelbulbmenu.htm (http://lariphotos.free.fr/fractales/mandelbulbmenu.htm)
I f you see something you'd like for your exhibition, I'd be glad to participate.

I'm sorry I haven't had the time to answer all post and/or messages. Very hectic days at work and newborn (3 months) baby at home.
Be patient please.

We have decided to go with two main artists. Bib and Kraftwerk.
Thanks to all who contacted me.
Now it's time for 2 weeks off work, but in the beginning of next year we will start on texts, pedagogic material and software.
Merry Chrismas and Happy new year!

The cabinet for the 42 inch zooming station is crafted.
This will contain 5 zoomable 80640 x 45360 images.

The first three 3,66 gigapixel renderings for the zooming station are ready.
Some of them will be available online. Here is the first:
http://varmlandsmuseum.se/fraktaler/VMZOOM/VMzoom.htm (http://varmlandsmuseum.se/fraktaler/VMZOOM/VMzoom.htm)

This is a box/bulb hybrid made by me. (It one took about a week to render)

There are also a standard Mandelbulb and a standard Amazing box already rendered. Thanks Mandelwerk

Any suggestions for the next gigapixel renderings ?
Not to complex since rendering time is limited.

Hi,

It is a great initative to display zoomable images, I have been advocating it for years. I would advise you to use OpenZoom rather than zoomify, the interface is much more fluid and the two applets are compatible. Check openzoom.org (http://www.openzoom.org/), or my link below.

I have currently 11 65536 x 65536 images of dense 2 dimensional fractals online on my website here:
http://algorithmic-worlds.net/expo/expo.php?Collection=Gigapixel&CollSearch=0
Click on a thumbnail and then click on the image to access the openzoom interface. This type of images is especially interesting to explore in a zoomable form because the fractal structures are dense, just like 2d projections of 3d fractals. If you are interested in displaying one or more on your exhibit, I can imagine sending them to you on a dvd. I would just ask not to display them directly from my website, because it would probably cause bandwidth problems.

Best wishes,

Sam
