The "diamonds" are regions of points with the latter fate. Title: Re: Royal Emblem Post by: Duncan C on November 07, 2011, 03:44:25 AM Very nice. Did you use directional lighting?
Title: Re: Royal Emblem Post by: Pauldelbrot on November 07, 2011, 05:04:25 PM Very nice. Did you use directional lighting? Thanks. I used DwellGrad, a coloring based on distance estimator, for the escaping points in this plot. But instead of distance to the fractal, DwellGrad estimates direction to the fractal. Combined with a suitable color gradient, the effect is a 3D illusion. The direction it computes is actually the direction at right angles to the iteration bands at that spot, and pointing in the direction of increasing iterations. In this particular image, where the bands are horizontal and the iterations increase downward, the color is a pale yellow; shading to dark brown as this direction swings from down to right to up-and-left; and shading to purple as the direction swings to up-and-right; then to pale purple for right; then back to pale yellow for down. |
