Title: Navigation window lighting VERSUS Main Window lighting.... Post by: howlingbull on October 27, 2011, 04:27:55 AM Hello,
Love the Mandelbulb 3d program and had a question concerning lighting. I've noticed that in the pop-up window of '3D navi' the base lighting is sometimes completely different than what is being shown in the 'Main Window interface' when rendered. I know the '3D navi' serves as a way to explore the fractals, but sometimes I find that I actually enjoy the lighting within '3D navi' way more than what is actually being rendered. Is there a way to 'Send out' the lighting from '3D navi' to the Main Menu window for rendering? Or to save & export the lighting? Please see attached for an example. Thanks, -J Title: Re: Navigation window lighting VERSUS Main Window lighting.... There is no export of light or color seperate from the complete params to main as far as I know. In your examples it seems to me it.s more a case of Far Plane settings in the Nav and Fog setting more than strictly light. Move the Far Plane closer in the Nav before exporting to main then increase Fog using both Ambient Depth fog as well as Dynamic Fog.

Post by: taurus on October 27, 2011, 10:34:11 AM what lenord (one of the mb3d masters) describes here, is the "art" of using fractal software. goal is to make the fractal look like you want it intendedly (not randomly). this process can be difficult, but it's a good start, when you already have an idea of how you want it, when you start tweaking.
good luck! Title: Re: Navigation window lighting VERSUS Main Window lighting.... Post by: morphogenesis on May 20, 2013, 12:57:14 AM Hi all! I'd like to follow up on this a bit. Like Jason, I also like the way things look in the Navi some times better than the immediate render. I don't want the Navi to do the work for me, but I would be interested in understanding the properties of light that the Navi uses to produce the visual effects it generates. As an old Bryce crazy, it seems to me almost as if the software is assigning material properties, but that clearly isn't the case. Adjusting the lighting parameters sometimes gets me close to (and often better than) the view in the Navi, but it often takes a lot of time. Any hints on how to consistently get closer? |
