I'm not quite sure, but it is as if I look at two fractals that do not fit with each other. The fine darkred ornaments do not match the curvatures of the shapes. It looks like a flat picture blended on top of a snapshot of a 3D rendering.
Nevertheless, I like it, especially the colour combination of rust-like red and shiny steel. Look closely at the "spines" of the rounded silver forms and you'll see red threads that follow them.

I mean that at the boundary of two objects (one closer to us and one further away), the texture over them must be disrupted, or at least should have some displacement.
There is no displacement only if you look straight from the top, and it is not possible to look at all beams from the top at the same time. Maybe I should try to illustrate this with an image... just a second... (1) The beams in the image have shades, this informs the brain about their shape in 3D. (2) The beams overlap in a way that is consistent with their position in space and their shape. (3) The texture on the beams DOES NOT correspond to the visual perception of depth co-created by (1) and (2) In the attached image there are three sections. The left one is the original. The middle one has three areas where I made manual displacement (it is not spatially accurate, it is just a mockup). The right section highlights the tree areas -- you can see how the texture pattern "breaks" along the edges of the beams in a way that supports the 3D perception in the brain. LhoghoNurbs, I see your point but to do what you suggest would require a little more work on my part :-) I would need to generate the texture fractal first so I could bend the texture around the 3D shapes. The current image displays each of the different mapping in their correct position with respect to the complex plane but as you point out, the 3D effect is compromised. |
