Title: second series of colour maps
Post by: kameelian on August 06, 2011, 06:01:21 PM
Well, for those that wanted them, I have put together a second series of 50 colour maps.

They start at the end of the previous set - from number 54 - and go all the way up to 104 -
still leaving a gap between 44 and 50, where the yellows met the greens. These have
a selection of more earthy, natural colours as well as some other vibrant ones.

Even though some of the original maps that came with the program were square
256x256 - and I kept most of the both series in this square format, I am being told
that 800x400 might be better for lighting effects over the diffuse effect.

Some 'may' be a bit dark 'out-of-the-box', but just fiddle with the map X-Y offset etc.

I have begun to alter both series to this size for those who must have them but,
unfortunately, I have not been able to do a quick batch resize and so I have to load
them into Photoshop individually (for some reason, selecting 'all' does not offer an
'open with' option), so I will have to do these resizes when I have more time and inclination.
(unless someone can do them in a blink of an eye?)

As before, I have put them in my temporary public files but maybe an FF member can put them
with the others on FF if they so wish?

These should be more than enough to be getting on with for now, I think.

regards
Kam

Cool colour maps!!

But please, never use jpg for this kind of things, png would be much more better (no compression artifacts).
If you want to do batch processing of images (resize, crop, sharp, resample, change format, rename...) I highly recommend IrfanView (it is free) http://www.irfanview.com/

Anyway, thank you again for them.

Hi, I used JPGs in the first instance to try to keep the size down for uploading to FF as there is only a small limit. Then when I uploaded them to AdDrive, they were in that format.

I don't know how the compression impacts on such a thing as a map, as it is merely background information for your actual picture and, as such, I have assumed that artifacts will not be noticed. (Maybe someone can clarify this).

As for IrfanView - I am using the shell of XnView (as I find XnView generally much better for me) but for some reason, the batch resize wants to keep aspect (i.e squares oddly remain square - even tho I put in 800x400,  they still come out either 800 OR 400). I can do it in the main program or Photoshop but, as I said, I have to load them individually, which is a pain.

Stop press! As it happens, I have managed to get them all in via the main program on another PC.

They are now here: http://www.adrive.com/public/97f7bbb032876710a24719754b56ba227a995caf5c6653927390342cef5078e8.html
stretched and with artifacts.

cheers
