Title: Problem with disk mode Post by: YakkoRex on June 28, 2011, 05:23:32 PM Just started getting back into Fractint when I got my new PC, using Beta 5 for windows. Tried rendering in 8192 x 8192, but saved file is only 1024 x 1024. Same result for disk mode of 2048 x 2048 - saved file is only 256 x 256. Any suggestions?

The idea of images saving at 1/8 resolution seems odd in the extreme, and I was hoping that someone else had experienced it, so that I could learn from their experience.

I have been using the beta windows version too, and I have had numerous issues saving images, regardless of which video mode I use. When you enter the view menu (key v), sometimes fractint crashes with buffer overruns, other times the menu is displayed but when you press the down arrow a number of times then it crashes, and somewhere on this view menu I believe are the options to control what size the saved image is. Towards the bottom of the window, some of the options are shown blank at times, and full of garbage at other times. I was in a 1024x768 screen mode and when I saved the gif was square. When I played with the v menu settings I could get various aspect ratios except what I was trying to achieve, and then gave up due to the crashing. One thing which seems to show there is a problem is when using the page up key to bring up the zoom box which starts off with the aspect ratio of the mode you are in, but when you rotate the zoom box the aspect ratio changes. I rotated the zoom box 90 degrees but it stayed the same size as it was, when I felt it should have been tall and thin. It looks like we may have to wait for an improved and more stable release before experimenting further. I added the final four modes (CF6 through CF9) for generating high resolution images for display on a 1920 x 1200 widescreen monitor, as below. First of the four modes targets the native desktop resolution, last three are respectively 2x, 4x and 10x the native resolution for anti-aliasing the generated image.

One other quirk to be aware of is that Beta 5 will often not render with the correct aspect ratio, i.e. it will stretch images along the X axis. The problem is documented in this bug report: - http://iteratedynamics.codeplex.com/workitem/12 To work around that problem, press Z to display the type-specific parameters page then press F6 or F7 to display the image co-ordinates page in "center-mag" mode. Then in the X Magnification Factor field adjust the currently displayed value to y/x, where x and y are the selected video mode x and y dimensions in pixels. So, for example, I enter 0.75 if I have selected 1280 x 960 and 0.625 if I have selected my 1920 x 1200 disk video mode or one of my three anti-aliasing modes. Title: Re: Problem with disk mode Post by: Ryan D on September 15, 2013, 09:54:18 AM My solution is similar to aleph0's - I don't ever use the view window ("v") command, I just edited the .cfg file to give me some thumbnail-sized choices for quick viewing. On my system, aspect ratio is always what I have set it to be in the X Magnification field, and I also get the correct image size when using the disk video. I've made images that were huge, more than 30,000 pixels on the long side, without a problem. Here's what my .cfg file looks like.

Sorry to be coming back on an older threat but I would like to get some help: I'm currently running Fractint for Windows beta at 1024x768 (this is the maximum resolution that Fractint lists). Although my screen supports higher (1280x800) and I've tried adding it on the .cfg file, Fractint does not display it as an option. Could anyone have a clue why? thank you! Title: Re: Problem with disk mode Post by: simon.snake on February 19, 2014, 12:05:21 AM Hi.
I don't think you can set the window size of any application window's client area to the same size as your screen's resolution, as there wouldn't be any space left for the menu, window border, etc. If that is the case and you are trying to create, for example, windows background images, you have to set up a disk mode the size of your desired resolution and once you are happy with the image you want to render, change the screen mode to the new disk mode and it will generate to that size. Don't forget to save the image (with 's') after it has been completed, just the same as any other screen or window mode. Title: Re: Problem with disk mode Post by: Belbo on February 19, 2014, 05:42:22 PM Thanks for your answer! I'm already doing disk mode (basically saving at 4,000x4,000 and then resizing) and it works nicely. My problem with Fractint is that the window does not cover the whole desktop, still, 1024x768 is fine enough, thanks again! |
