As a complete newbie, I got carried away... Having been beavering away for the past 6 weeks, (learning by trial and error and then forgetting it again) I have now got my first M3D video that's longer than a few 'test' seconds, ready for tentative release on the world. It has been saved as an avi in Virtual Dub and is 5mins 50sec in length but (shock), 14.1 GB in size [!] So what do folk recommend to compress it with to get it into a manageable size/rate and quality before uploading it? - and where to? Is it best/worst on Youtube or to opt for specialist art sites? Just search for them on the internet, but be a bit careful what you download, since there is some rubbish available. I would recommend Xvid: good and free. DivX is good but not (completely) free. You can select your codecs via the "Compression" tab in VD. If you add audio, don't forget to set your audio to "Full processing mode" and select your favourite compression. Where you want to upload is a matter of opinion, but you have the best chance for a bit of exposure on Youtube. Vimeo is a good alternative.

As it happens, in the wilderness before getting any replies, I've knocked together a makeshift shrunken version in Windows Movie Maker and have just uploaded it to YouTube - I didn't realise their size limit was now a huge 1GB(!) so, no messing with appropriate codecs just yet and I assume YouTube will have converted it into an FLV anyway.
