Title: Photos of forum members Post by: Kali on June 24, 2011, 06:51:09 PM I think it should be fun to see our faces, at least the most active members here . I propose posting in this thread some pictures of us, what do you think?
Off course I respect and understand people who don't want to use real names or show photos of theirselves, and sometimes it could be a good thing to hide behind a misterious nick ;D but... this is me, Pablo Román Andrioli (http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/154/8/6/86e34b707a026d8ea877dc4aba12459c-d3hycj6.jpg) (please don't rate this fractal and don't ask for the formula because is top secret :)). Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: cKleinhuis on June 24, 2011, 06:58:33 PM ok, here am i, in my room, in the back is a 1x2m print i did back in 1997!

And bib, congratulations again for being on tv! you really show off some speech skills in that video. It seems you did very well, too bad I don't understand much French, but sounds good! ;D - Subtitles please!!! Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: bib on June 24, 2011, 09:32:18 PM OK Pablo, there you go:
<< Get ready for a trip into a new world, in the middle of infinity. Infinity of colors, of shapes and perspectives. Infinitely small or infinitely large, the universe you’re penetrating is psychedelic. But don’t misunderstand, these images were not born in the LSD-impregnated brain of a Californian hippie, what you see are mathematical equations, modeled in 3D. These are called fractals, and here is their author. Just like an alchemist changing lead into gold, Jérémie Brunet transforms science into art. And for the first time, he exhibits his works: tens of images created thanks to fractal geometry. “In nature, one hardly finds shapes such as straight lines, squares or circles. All these shapes were invented by mankind. Quite the opposite! In nature, you’ll find rough shapes such as trees, mountains, or clouds. All these shapes cannot be described using Pythagoras’ traditional geometry (note : I should have said Euclid!). To describe these, you’ll need fractal geometry.” Take for instance the romanesco cabbage, where each part is identical to the whole, like in this picture. “This part for example is really identical to the object as a whole. And when you zoom inside, you’ll find the same structures over and over again, till infinity. We think that it is the first time since mankind colonized planet Earth that one is able to discover new universes” These new worlds, “Bib”, his artist’s name, fell inside at the age of 13. He started by drawing them by hand. But today he uses software like this one to undertake his voyages. “What I am interested into is exploration, discovery, and the capacity to create totally original images, with fantastic colors, in a few mouse clicks, and at the end of the day rather quickly considering the beauty that they can represent”. Bib shares his passion with many Net surfers. His Youtube channel counts more than 200000 hits (note : today more than 350000) and the forum he contributes to animate brings together 2000 members (note : today more than 2400), all of them ready to show that mathematics can also be aesthetic. >> Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: Sockratease on June 24, 2011, 11:55:48 PM I never use my real name online because of my work in certain ... Naughty and Adults Only areas of the web.
This is the closest I have come to ever posting my image: (http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m278/sockratease/me2.jpg) Call me Paranoid, but in some fields, Real Names are a Protected Commodity! One thing concerns me though... WHERE are the rest of us Old Hippies?? Am I the only Long-Hair here?? I never thought to try that one. Admittedly since the above I've had some white highlights added (for free) ;) Just think of it as Increased Specularity. Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: Kali on June 25, 2011, 02:10:15 PM @bib: thanks, and very well spoken!
@Socks: My photo is more than a year old, and I had let my hair grow sinces then... It got quite long, but my wife insisted too much and I had a haircut recently :embarrass: @David: I already saw your cool "mandelmouth" image, but the second is so funny! ;D Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: Sockratease on June 25, 2011, 02:51:12 PM @Socks: My photo is more than a year old, and I had let my hair grow sinces then... It took me until I was 47 years old to meet a woman who would not try to make me cut my hair - and I am NOT letting her get away!! It's just so much a part of me (Literally!) that I was never willing to cut it off. I'm rather attached to it :clown: Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: miguelnpg on June 25, 2011, 07:26:27 PM Oh man, I´m really awesome dude.

Looking around, I would say I am the tadpole of the forums coming in at a wopping 18 years of age. :dink: @Sock: I just had a few inches taken off for my high school graduation. And yes, you've read it right, fractals are only my 2nd favourite... Hope this doesn't get me banned from the forums :dink: Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: David Makin on June 26, 2011, 11:07:16 PM @David: I already saw your cool "mandelmouth" image, but the second is so funny! ;D Thanks :) Both the mushroom head and the "mouth" are using my class-based MMF Field Estimator colouring in mmf.ulb Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: Cyclops on June 27, 2011, 09:37:33 AM Here's me taken by my 5 year ols son

Sometimes bad jokes can backfire. Hope I didn't offend you - it was just in that last photo with only one eye showing, and your user-name... You get the idea :blindfold: Title: Re: Photos of forum members Post by: Cyclops on June 27, 2011, 12:38:04 PM Well, it's a relief to see that you have both eyes even if only one works! Cool! so you actually do it! when you told me in my wingsuit video post I thought you just would like to. Also due to my poor english I thought of a hang-glider. I never flyed, but I'd love to do it some day. I have a friend who has a friend who owns a small plane and he will tell him to invite me for a flight someday.
