Title: 'Locking' Reflections?
Post by: MarkJayBee on May 28, 2011, 04:58:07 PM
First off I've got to say that the new reflections function in v1.70 is
absolutely brilliant, and I now find myself considering locations with
this feature in mind - one more obsession to add I guess?! :dink:

What I do find a bit frustrating - given the long render times involved -
is the hit-or-missness of setting up lighting and colour when using reflects.
If the settings aren't 'just right' then with any kind of post-render adjustment,
the whole reflect vanishes and must be rerendered!

Is there any practical possibility of adding a 'lock reflections' facility to M3D,
and maybe 'lock DoF' too?

As ever, I live in hope.... :D

sorry for not responding that fast, i live also in hope that somebody other can answer  :dink:

It is not really possible without storing more informations of these calculations, so this will not be really available.
You can test some parts by using the rect function from the reflection function, that might help a bit (hopefully  :)).

Thanks Jesse!  :D
Hadn't thought of the 'rect' function - guess my lateral thinking is not as sharp as it once was!!
Using rect should allow reasonably quick previews of lighting outcomes, and indicate any
required adjustments at the final render size.
