Hello,

I was wondering where i can find tutorials regarding mandelbulb 3D that also explain the quartz composer method I'm not familiar with at all!.

Is it possible that the program is only like 100 kb large? I downloaded a file for mac.
Is it also possible that the interface of the windows version (where could i download it) is totally different?

The only place you can get the REAL Mandelbulb3D is in the Downloads Section here at Fractal Forums, Designed and made available by member of Fractal Forums Jesse. There is only one MB3D and it's for Windows but can be run on MAC, not sure how that works since I use windows PC but any MAC user can tell you I'm sure. You might be confusing another program called Mandelbulber with Mandelbulb3D, they are completely different Programs only the results are similar.

@lenord, I think he was confused with Subblue's "3D Mandelbulb" Pixelbender script for Adobe Photoshop...

In summary there are only 2 CPU-based dedicated Mandelbulb programs : Mandelbulb3D and Mandelbulber. The first one is my favourite (and overall I think it's the one which is the most popular as we speak in the fractal community) because of its ease of use, although I acknowlegde that the second one can produce higher quality and more realistic images. Both have very equivalent features. Each time an innovation in one program is adopted by its users, then the other programmer adds it in his own code (like stereoscopy which appeared first in Mandelbulber, then in M3D, or "box rotations" that came first in M3D, and then in Mbulber)

There are also other kinds of Mandelbulb programs, like Subblue's script for Pixelbender, David Makin's or fractalrebel's Ultrafractal formulas, or even GPU-based renderers like Boxplorer or the fantastic (and quick if run on Mac) FractalLab (http://fractal.io/). GPU based engines are much quicker and allow realtime exploration, but have less capabilities when it comes to post-processing or rendering high quality images.

@scheven_architect, as usual when it comes to fractal programs, the best is to test them all and choose the one(s) you like. And if you want to follow DeviantArt's mainstream, then Mandelbulb3D is the way forward, it is also the application for which you'll find more example parameters...

If you are going to use Jessie's Mandelbulb 3D, I made three tutorials for it. They are pretty basic and written as I was learning the program. I never claimed to be an expert, but I get by... They should help you get started. Each tutorial was written using certain versions of the program. The version is clearly listed and linked to in the tutorial.  Here's the link to those.
