Title: Installation issues mac os Post by: scheven_architect on April 23, 2011, 06:38:18 PM Hello,
Anyone of you guys use the mac os version of mandelbulber and knows how to install? I can't manage to install it by following the readme file :( greetings! Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: visual.bermarte on April 23, 2011, 07:04:43 PM Hi, does not work on os 10.4..dunno if is ok for lions..
open install_settings using terminal, be sure you have x11 running. try to open it with x11.. you should have a password and insert it.. if you have problems you could try to compile it for your mac..xcode and macports should be installed. Try like that..find a folder 'opt' and copy it to your HD..now copy hidden folder .mandelbulber inside your user folder. To show hidden files from terminal: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE killall Finder after you finished go back like that (hide hidden files) defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE killall Finder if you want, see the readme file and send a mail with a screengrab and some infoZ Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: scheven_architect on April 23, 2011, 07:16:15 PM Sorry but I'm really a noob when it comes to this kind of terminology :)
I'll send a mail to the developers and see what they say. greetings Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: trafassel on April 24, 2011, 01:55:40 AM On Snow Leopard, the only thing you have to do is to double click on install_settings. Then you will ask for you password (to get the install rights).
After this "setup" you can start the program mandelbulber (X11 starts automatically). Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: scheven_architect on April 24, 2011, 11:11:16 AM Last login: Sun Apr 24 10:58:56 on ttys000

Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: visual.bermarte on April 25, 2011, 03:10:01 PM in the unzipped folder (once the installation is finished) you find the application (mandelbulber)..you can move it where you want..just double click on it. :)
please post a picture here after the job is done! Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: scheven_architect on April 26, 2011, 08:28:25 PM Installation went fine, the program runs great but i downloaded the gradient and formula zip from the topic on top of the forum list and i don't find the folders where i should put them :(.
When i open mandelbulber and want to load settings a folder .mandelbulber is displayed but when i search it in finder it's not even on my mac, does it have to do with the following? rom terminal install gtk2 using port, first run a selfupdate. sudo port selfupdate sudo port install gtk2 you can find separetly user guide here http://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/files/Mandelbulber%20user%20guide.pdf/download download the code from http://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/files/mandelbulber1.00.tar.gz/download now you have to open a file and change something in makefile. makefiles \makefile open this file and change this part: -o"mandelbulber" -o 'mandelbulber' continue from terminal to compile the project cd makefiles make all this will compile mandelbulber program linking the libraries created using macports you nedd to copy .settings folder in your user-folder from terminal navigate inside mandelbulber1.00 folder and run from terminal mkdir $HOME/.mandelbulber/ cd `dirname $0` && pwd ditto .mandelbulber/ $HOME/.mandelbulber/ type the name of your application inside terminal and press enter mandelbulber greetings! Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: visual.bermarte on April 26, 2011, 11:03:11 PM nee :)
you don't find the folders because they are inside an hidden folder.. see > http://www.macworld.com/article/51830/2006/07/showallfinder.html or http://www.brooksandrus.com/blog/2007/03/23/mac-os-x-show-hide-hidden-files-in-finder/ you will be able to see your mandelbulber folder (.mandelbulber) with all your folders and files. Open terminal and type Code: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE now write Code: Killall Finder OK! now your Finder can see your hidden files (search for the folder '/betlegeuse/.mandelbulber').. read also http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?t=149467 Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: scheven_architect on April 27, 2011, 03:52:45 PM O ye! Much appreciated!
Since I'm new to fractals and my field of interest is architecture i was wondering if some formula's/fractal types are more suitable than others to create effects as if the fractal is a city or a building (so no 'pointy' fractals that look like and explosion) Can i find somewhere what scale cscale rotation, ... causes as effect? greetings! Title: Re: Installation issues mac os Post by: scheven_architect on April 28, 2011, 09:53:13 PM I'm trying to make fractals now but really i'm a monkey just randomly typing numbers :p. the second exemple you gave i tried but i don't get anywhere near it :p. greetings! |
