Title: Hi from pfrancke
Post by: pfrancke on April 01, 2011, 11:08:56 PM
Hi everyone!  I've been having fun with a program called Mandelbulb 3d.  My background is playing with toys like Terragen, Carrara, photoshop and pretending that I'm making pictures and art by pushing buttons and moving pixels around.  I'm not any good at it but I have a lot of fun.  I especially like using Terragen 2 more as general purpose rendering device than as a terrain builder.

I have this observation to make for what it is worth:

I'm sure all the time people are saying "make this fractal into an object".  I recognize that it is better to generate a virtual world and put a camera inside it.  Exactly like has been done with Mandelbulb 3d.  It would be sooo cool if a program like this could also serve as a general purpose rendering tool.  It would need to do atmosphere (more than just fog at distance).  It would need to be able to load object files.  It would need to have different strategies for allowing you to apply texture (not just color) to the surfaces with all the standard texture stuff.  What fun we could have with such a program!!   But in the mean time, I AM having fun with it.  Thank you Jesse.

Piet

Hi, good to meet you.  Terragen's cool and I also use Bryce (or did until I got obsessed with Mandelbulb3D!)  Have fun with your toys and never ever ever grow up!!!   :howdy:
