Title: I new way to print Mandelbulbs?
Post by: Lee Oliver on March 04, 2011, 02:27:00 AM
I was turned upon a new method of laser printing 3D sculptures.  This method cuts extremely thin pieces of cardboard with a laser and can accomplish wonderful detail.  Here's a link to a short article.

As well as a link to the creators website

However, they are kinda pricey.

Reads really interesting. Ok, for now it is too expensive, but in the beginning all new technologies are.
Maybe in one or two years this is a possible and payable way to produce 3d fract art.

I wonder how sturdy they are.  Do you suppose one could handle them without fear of wasting $1500?

My guess is that they are strengthened with epoxy or similar after the print, I know my 3D printed mandelbulb is...  O0

Ooh, very nice! :)  How much did it cost to print yours, for comparison?
