Title: Vimeo vs YouTube
Post by: panzerboy on February 21, 2011, 09:51:04 PM
First the YouTube, took hours to upload and the 720p really looks rubbish. Have to pause to buffer in 720p playback.

Vimeo took half an hour to upload and you can watch in HD with no pausing/stuttering and its looks about as good as the source video.

I'm on Vimeo now for purely personal reasons.

I had to make a Vimeo Account since youtube now demands that you log in with a google account!  I do not want, nor will I ever have, a google account - In fact...  I boycott google!  I block them with every blocking tool I can get.

So I'm now switching to Vimeo and may never be able to access my youtube account again.

Their loss.

Vimeo's gain!

I heart Vimeo!  A positive, friendly community and a slick setup for the video player and social features.  The vast majority of the stuff you find there is actually created by the uploader - not recycled from tv or America's Home Video knockoffs.

The Subscribe and Contacts features are great. Subscribe to a few people who's work you like - and to the videos that they like as well. That results in great variety of interesting videos whenever you visit.
