Title: NOVA fractals documentary
Post by: playful_geometer on February 10, 2011, 08:44:16 AM
Hello fractal-lovers,

For a great introduction to fractals, I highly recommend checking out PBS' NOVA' episode "Hunting the Hidden Dimension", their exploration of the fractal, viewable online here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/physics/hunting-hidden-dimension.html .  Some PBS shows get blocked here in Canada, but this one didn't, so I hope it works for you too.

Cheers,
~The Playful Geometer

"We're sorry, but this video is not available in your region due to rights restrictions". So much for the "World Wide" Web... Anybody know of a (legal, of course...) version on Youtube or Vimeo?

Just got round to watching the secret life of chaos o i recorded at christmas.

Thanks for posting as i am sure others will eventually want to look.

It is strange to hear of a breakthrough that overturned Newton's Ideas and not mentioning Einstein. This is testimony to the importance of philosophy to scientists as well as mathematicians, despite what they say!

Newton's Philosophy, made indisputable by Kant for scientists has only just undergone a thorough revision, and the time is ripe for a new Fractal empirical philosophy.

Will you guys contribute to the future philosophy?

Glad you folks liked that, I discovered "The Secret Life of Chaos" a couple weeks ago and watched as well.  I really liked the show... until the end, when it made sweeping conclusions about the nature of reality, i.e. our world being just some random unpredictable system.  I'll have to check out that colours of infinity some time soon too.
