Title: Depth of Field
Post by: mehrdadart on February 06, 2011, 11:15:24 PM
Hi friends,

For a long time I have had difficulty with DoF (Depth of Field) in Mb3D. Selecting the "z sharp" point as the central focus point and giving an amount to "Max Radius" as the degree of blurring, I do not have perfect focuses. The software starts blurring the area exactly from the very near points from the Z point and blurs all shapes very close to this point with a high speed. However, the blur degree between far and so far shapes does not differ. I mean it very soon starts working for very close shapes and stops getting stronger with that speed for distant shapes. I want to keep a larger distance focused around the "Z point" and then have strong blurs in far distances! I think it could be solved with "Object Size". Actually, I do not know how it works. Playing around with it and experimenting several numbers for a certain render I finally found the best focus for that render. It seemed that "Object Size" solved the problem well. But, there should be a way to know how to set it easier and faster. Does any body know anything in this regard?   :)

Thanks,
Mehrdad

On 'Object size' values below 0.5 the effect of the small focus range will be stronger, on higher values the range becomes more nonlinear (vary of blur radius with the distance), but there is never a range with perfect focus... only a focus point.
Maybe an additional value for decreasing the radius would be an option, even this is not physically correct.
