Title: Fractal exhibition in Paris
Post by: bib on January 15, 2011, 12:41:20 AM
If you live in the Paris area in France or if you are in Paris these days, I have the pleasure to invite you to the "varnishing" of my first exhibition on Thursday, January the 27th. This is a private event organised by a friend of mine at the ESMA (European Society for Mathematics and Arts, http://www.mathart.eu/). I have printed about 30 of my best pictures (designed mostly in Mandelbulb3D but also in Ultrafractal) in large formats and on high quality supports and will exhibit a dozen of them. Please send me a PM for the details if you wish to pass by and say hello. The exhibition might last for a few days, by appointment only.

Bib, thanks for invitation  :)

Around 630 km & 7 hours on the road untill Place de l'Étoile ( Charles-de-

Gaulle ) from my home are a bit too far away for myself and a short visit

here at the moment.

Whenever it could have been a really good reason to be in France and

Paris again  :D

***
So I wish you now good luck for your first exhibition and please let us all

take part later on with photos from the event :)  :dink:  :)

Let us all know how it goes!

bib, this is a great piece of news and at the same time I feel so bad, because I'm too far from there :(

Would you consider making a small on-line version of the gallery?

For my last exhibition I added such a e-gallery just for all those who were pysically unable to come - it is nothing special, just few pictures from the hall and the posters(http://mandelbrot-set.elica.net/).

BTW what paper did you use? Glossy photo paper gives more vibrant colours and sharp shapes, but can "capture" fingerprints and are not suitable if there are unavoidable light reflections. Matte, on the other hand, makes no reflection and fingerprints, but is ... not glossy.

Anyway, good luck with your exhibition!

Too bad :( but there will be other occasions in the future hopefully.

I might create a section on my DA account with the pictures I will exhibit. Depending on available time of course.
I have printed my pictures on a combination of interesting materials. As this is the first time I do this, I'm trying several options, and the best I have found so far is to print them on fine art paper on Dibond, covered with Plexiglas. It gives a glossy aspect and brings depth to the image. Very professional looking.

Thank you all for the encouragements, and see you for the world tour! :D

Their editor-in-chief will be there :D

Great bib! Actually Paris is not that far from here (~370 km), but regerettably I have other commitments the coming weekends. Any chance on a rerun later in the year?

There will be more in the future, not dedicated 100% to my images, but in much more prestigious places, maybe in the "Palais de la découverte" (a museum of sciences) in Paris next June.

This is such a fun experience! I can't wait for next Thursday :)

I was at Bib's vernissage yesterday :D
Nice displays, large-size renderings, lot of interest from the public.
This confirms that fractal art deserves large formats so the details at all scales appear clearly.
But, god, how difficult it is to answer clearly questions like «but what is a fractal, exactly?»:)
I met many interesting people.
Bib, i hope this success continues, with, maybe other exhibitions and other works.

Back to reality after a hectic day yesterday. That was a great success  :toast:

I hope I will find some time to write a more detailed story and post some photos, a few stats to start with:

- 30 of my images on the walls + a screen showing my videos
- more than 70 visitors
- 6 pieces sold, + 1 order

Thanks to all forum members who were there)  :)
 :thumbsup1:

If you are interested and could not come yesterday, PM me and I'll send you the gallery owner contact details.

Si vous êtes intéressé et n'avez pas pu venir, envoyez moi un MP, je vous enverrai les coordonnées de mon ami qui tient la galerie.

Very nice! Congrats bib   :drink: Let us know when your interview will appear on LCI's website.

One question (not entirely without self interest  :dink:): At what resolution did you render the work that you exhibit and at what size have you printed them?

At least I will mention FF ;)

There is a variety of formats between 1200x1200 and 8000x8000 in pixels and between 20x20 and 105x70 in cm.

Nice going Jérémie - I've rendered quite a few 3D images but never got around to printing them, it looks like I should get a move on !!

BTW Everyone's invited to visit my "studio" here in North Wales any time (just get in touch to arrange it first) - and there's a gallery exhibition at Bodelwyddan Castle until 13th March including 3 of my fractal prints (giclee on canvas) - the other 20 or so artists in the exhibition are from various genres and all took part in Helfa Gelf 2010:

Sorry, originally I was just going to make the first comment and send the invitation to the exhibition and my studio as a personal message to yourself but then I thought that I may as well make the invitation more general :)

I went to see Bib's exhibition in Paris and thought it was great. He showed many beautiful prints of his images which are among my favorite 3D fractal renderings. On the evening I went, there was quite a crowd and people were pleased and surprised by what they saw.  It's encouraging to know that 3D fractals are getting a warm welcome by the public. Bravo Bib!

Very different styles of images sold apparently. I like the first one and the last one very much. Surprizing the burning ship was not sold, but it was quite large, what was its price?
An interview with LCI is quite impressive! It's no less than the main french news TV channel. Tell us when it is broadcasted (if it is done?).

Not all 70 people came at the same time. At the peak hour there were about 50 people, it was packed and very noisy!
