Title: "Alien Interface" revisited Post by: David Makin on January 24, 2007, 12:24:41 AM Hi all,
A while ago I rendered an animated version of a 3D Julibrot of z^2+c with solid based on orbit trapping - anyway I decided to do a better quality "still" version with the colouring reworked, I'd love any/all comments: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1370373&member (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1370373&member) It was rendered in Ultrafractal using mmf.ufm-Solid 3D at 8000*6000 in high detail (100) and it took around 96 hrs on my 3GHz P4 (which was occassionally also otherwise occupied). bye Dave Title: Re: "Alien Interface" revisited Post by: lycium on January 24, 2007, 04:42:14 AM nicely antialiased - good job! i must say though, 4 days is an awfully long time to be rendering something like that :-X

Nicely done!! :D But I see that UF still has problems with the placement of shadows, some are not where they should be, others missing altogether. Over all, it came out quite nicely. Hi Paul - I take issue with that - if you think that shadows are missing or incorrect then you need to rethink where the lightsource is :-) Having said that there are some errors in the render - specifically two or three areas of "scalloping" which is due to the difficulty of rendering solid based on orbit trapping without turning the detail level rediculously high, I didn't really want to spend more than 4 days computer time on the render ! |
