Title: Fractal Demo in 2D & 3D Post by: FractalFoundation on November 28, 2010, 07:49:36 AM http://vimeo.com/16906813
Here's a 12 minute demo, a sampler to try to show a glimpse of what our planetariums show "First Friday Fractals" is like. It's always work in progress, of course. This demo has a provisional narrator (my dad), but the real show will be narrated by a woman with an English accent. The ultimate planetarium movie we're making will be 30 minutes long. At 4Kx4K resolution, can you imagine how long it takes to render Mandelbulbs and Boxes?! Try to imagine you're immersed in the video. I'd love any feedback, as we're trying to make this movie as great as possible. Thanks! -Jonathan Note: In this demo, I used Ultra Fractal, Mandelbulber, Xenodream, and AfterEffects; my brother Daniel did the soundtrack. Now I want my own planetarium.
Title: Re: Fractal Demo in 2D & 3D Post by: Jameses on November 29, 2010, 01:23:44 AM I enjoyed it. It reminded me of the educational movies viewed in the Imax dome at the science centre.

Congratulations ! Nice smooth animations. I didn't listen to the comments so far. Very little feedback : I happen to know that Imax-like projections can make people feel unconfortable and a bit sick if the animations are too fast. And some are a bit too fast, I think. And that people's eyes can really focus on a small zone around the center. I suppose you will test it on an audience ? I've definitely been testing this material on audiences, as we've been doing a planetarium fractal show for the past 3 years. I certainly do have to calibrate the intensity of zooming and especially spinning, in order to avoid creating nausea. Younger audiences tend to like the motion a little more radical than older, not surprisingly. Fortunately, I've managed to avoid ever making anyone throw up! Your comment about focusing in the fovea is correct, BUT in an immersive fulldome theater the periphery creates an incredible sense of actually being in the fractal environment. And of course, you can scan around and enjoy the hires detail anywhere. It's an amazing experience - and I look forward to distributing our show to other theaters soon, so hopefully more of you will be able to enjoy it!
