Awesome! What software did you use?  (Or is "Boxplorer" the name of it - never heard of it, but I'm still discovering new software for fractals all the time on this site).

 :) thanks, it's boxplorer by Rrrola > http://www.ms.mff.cuni.cz/~kadlj3am/big/boxplorer/
and this one is a K-ifs made with it.

It's on the list.  Maybe by 2012 I will have tried out all the fractal software that's caught my eye. :D

BTW, that K-ifs image is really clean.  I love the texture.  Be careful where you show it tho.  It could excite a hungry zombie!
"brains...."  LOL

I think you'd get nicer colors if you modify the iteration count for coloring (press I for iteration mode, use left/right arrows). I really need to finish the HUD someday...

I really love this real-time business!  I had done some experimenting with boxplorer already, but I will play with it some more now that I've seen these screens!

Yes, please make a HUD/UI.   But, before you do all that, can you make it so that if you're holding a mouse button to fly, it also steers the camera like when you're sitting still?  :pray2:  Maybe its already an option and I missed it...  I'll check it out some more.  I downloaded all of your sample cfg files.  :nerd:

EDIT:  Nevermind, duh, I found it.  Hold down alt.  I guess I want it to be so you hold down alt to make it go straight.  Maybe you should just make it a toggle?   I'm having fun with it now, and downloaded all of your sample cfg files.  But, I'm getting laggy when I go fullscreen, although it runs pretty fast in a window.  I have an ATI Radeon HD 5830.

What is it? Inside box?  :hmh:

This is some really lovely work, and incredible software. How can obtain higher resolution images though?

This is my first test using FRAPS to record my journey in boxplorer.  I also did some post temporal smoothing and noise reduction in VirtualDub.  I'm using my gamepad (Logitech Rumblepad 2) to control the movement, although it seems like I could adjust the sensitivity a little better.  It was hard to bind everything so it would work, but now it's like I'm playing a mandelbox video game!

thanx for the tip Rrrola, very useful ..yes Kraftwerk, a kind of, thanx. PureGuitarFury: just open and edit the configuration file (.cfg file) using notepad or similar, change the size parameters as you like, drag-and-drop it inside Boxplorer.
ReallyBigName: nice anim.!
..another random zoom..

Hi,
Let me suggest anttweakbar (http://www.antisphere.com/Wiki/tools:anttweakbar) for the HUD. It's excellent even if it haven't been updated since april 2009. I've used it in an old toy project.
I've attached a modified fragment shader where I've added yet another Menger sponge formula with some variations (see this thread (http://www.fractalforums.com/3d-fractal-generation/revenge-of-the-half-eaten-menger-sponge/) for details). Actually, what you get by default is a blend between a sphere and a menger sponge. Try key[1] to key[4] to change parameters. the zip contains also the config file and a shortcut (in order to use the provided config instead of the default one).
Hope you'll like it  ;D.

Wow. That's almost as long as the ending of 2001. And twice as nifty. :)

Wow. That's almost as long as the ending of 2001. And twice as nifty. :)
Thanks!  I totally see the resemblance, especially in the first part.

After being frustrated with rendering for a week to get a 2 minute animation, for once, I wanted to make a nice long movie.  I can't wait to try some other formulas - if I can find some other fragment.glsl files.  Hard to find though...  I might try to reprogram my own.  I know a bit about programming, but not much about fractal al gore rythms! :vomit:

I've only found one other one for a sphere/box hybrid thing.  Can you point me to any more?  (or just post them)  It would also help me to program them if I have a bunch of examples.  I was looking through the original glsl file tonight at the commented options and stuff, and learning about glsl's...

heh, didn't think anyone would actually try that one, besides bethchen@ ;D
Cranking up the glow, eh? Nicely ominous.

Find attached a 1522+ shader w/ nicer coloring than just brown.
This time actually tested on osx as well; those shader compilers are picky..

Beth's formulas would work nicely with a cut-out view, since the slices expose our regular 2d friends.

How have you managed to remove the "extra features" on the top side?

Title: Re: exploring boxplorer
Post by: visual.bermarte on May 08, 2011, 01:54:32 PM
 ;D increasing iterations helps but then it's difficult to recognize the shapes from a distance. :hurt:
2 remove the extra-shapes i can set scale to around 3.116 and leave iterations to 5-6..otherwise touching just a bit CX=1,CY=0 or CZ=0 would
remove 'randomly' the extra-features on the top or on the base (or 'peripherically') but not both. :crazy:

I like it and I know its just a test but thought I would add:
To put textures on each wall use the normal to determine the dimensions to use in the texture lookup.
if(abs(normal.z)>0.5) then color=texture2D(tex,ray.xy);
else if(abs(normal.y)>0.5) then color=texture2D(tex,ray.xz);
else color=texture2D(tex,ray.zy);
Maybe someone knows a faster way?
