Title: 2d slices
Post by: paolo on October 23, 2010, 10:12:26 PM
;D Would't it be lovely if there was a feature to produce a 2d 'slice' of the 3d fractals in Mandelbulb 3d? Thanks very much for the program.

That leads to a general advice to read the textfile in the m3d archive if questions arise,
before posting here  :)

Here are some of the first sentences in the readme:

"Zooming and navigating:
-----------------------
One way for navigating is to use the 2D mouse functions to navigate and zoom
via 2D slices to different positions.  You can select on the bottom left side
of the programs window three options by clicking on the buttons: "

And you can render the Zstart, Zmid and Zend slices with the little Buttons on the
top right side of the main window.

Cheers

I also found the original question quite weird. Actually when you launch M3D, the first image you see on screen is a 2D slice of a Mandelbulb :D

Maybe it was meant in the way that the 2D slice should be displayed rotated in 3D, so that an
animation could show the slices whereas the overall shape of the bulb stays in 3D... or something  :)

Then i would recommend the cutting function, though no arbitrary cut plane is possible...

Hey guys,  was just checking in and noticed this thread.  Wondered if you were noticing what I've been doing for the longest time over at "...search for the holy grail continues" thread.  Everything I've done there to extend M (in square roots of i) was restricted to 2d, since I don't have a 3-d generator (and bitch about the lack of one incessantly!).  What I've done there is not, as nearly as I can tell, anything like what Mbulb offers, and in its vast shadow, I can't get much of any attention for it.  Please, have a look at my long and strange history of failed sales, and tell me what you think.  Everything you might need to do it w. FractInt freeware is there.  Thanx.

fracmonk, maybe that thread is to long and to hard to follow for others, and why dont you use a program
that is capable of doing 3D renders like Chaospro or Ultrafractal?
Dunno if Fractint could do it as well, have not tried it...

Yes, Fractint is not set up to do 3d.  Have to look into other generators.  I don't swim like a fish on the web & have little time lately.
