Title: Re: In Honor of Mandelbrot 10/15/2010 Post by: The Rev on October 16, 2010, 07:29:47 PM It blows me away that a simple formula you can write down in a couple of seconds could secretly hold more information than the entire Universe. It's an idea that, in and of itself, is miraculously beautiful. That it comes with pictures is almost too good to be true. :D

Fractal art definitely enters the spiritual realm like other art forms, but through the mind as well as the heart.

Title: Re: In Honor of Mandelbrot 10/15/2010 Post by: Thunderwave on October 16, 2010, 10:27:05 PM Thank you all for enjoying the movie. I couldn't have done it without information from this forum and Mandelbrot himself. In fact he has changed my life and my way of thinking. I believe he has touched us all. He will be truly missed. :sad1:
Title: Re: In Honor of Mandelbrot 10/15/2010 Post by: Tglad on October 17, 2010, 01:09:20 AM Its sad to hear the news. I found him inspirational because he didn't achieve success by having his head stuck in a book of formulas, instead he spread his ideas to the general population, emphasising imagery and playing with ideas as ways to learn. I think it will be a long time before we really appreciated what he brought, and we all use fractals like we use euclidean ideas today.
