Title: New Kid
Post by: katanna on August 25, 2010, 06:51:19 PM
Hi my name is Kat aka Katannna,
I was a pretty avid Ultra Fractal user until a few years ago when I started having some computer problems. Before I knew it I
was no longer dabbling and exploring. THis past week I got a new computer and well I was hoping that I could somehow get started with
fractal creations again. ONE BIG PROBLEM..I have a new mac. I know its doable now but it seems like there is all this other stuff I need to do to make this work.
SO IM here to see if anyone has sound advice for me
 I have a new MAC OS X version 10.6.4, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 13, 4GB 1333MHz DDR3
I do not have the latest version of Ultra Fractal...its probably 2 years out.
for those of you who use a mac, what suggestions could you give this new mac user.

Thanks
kat :dink:

Hello and Welcome to the forum!

I picked up a program called "Crossover" and it runs many windows programs on my mac  (but I have osx 10.5.2).  It does run UltraFractal, and many other fractal generators - but not all.

As for native mac programs, try Terry Gintz's site : http://www.mysticfractal.com/

Many options there.

Also, my favorite mac only toy - Duncan C's Fractal Works available here:  http://web.mac.com/dchampney/Site/FractalWorks.html

More in the Mac section of our Fractal Software section - http://www.fractalforums.com/macintosh-fractal-software/

Hope that helps   O0

Other options for Windows software on a Mac are BootCamp and Parallels.

Kat, look this http://www.winehq.org/ (http://www.winehq.org/). Free and Open-Source Windows emulator. It was a buggy project in past but now this is awesome project. Version for Mac work perfect.

Greetings, and Welcome to this particular Forum !!!    :)

Sockratease has given you some very good resources to start you off.  Terry Gintz's MAC programs (http://www.mysticfractal.com/) are quite popular and offer many opportunities for exploration.  And Fractal Works (http://web.mac.com/dchampney/Site/FractalWorks.html) by Duncan Champney is another one that every MAC user should spend some time with.  And many more may be found....

Also, there is a new application available called Fracton (http://www.fracton.org/) by Mike Frazier.  The 1.0.4 version was just released yesterday, and includes many major features.
