  Extended to next iteration:

 I took the values of x, y, and z, iterated them one more time, took their total magnitude and used this to assign colors.  I also used rXmodec coloring, but with +1 iteration.
z^2 coloring and formula, complex triplex (bulb variation), "elephant valley" location:

Used z^3 for the coloring iteration of this z^2 complex triplex (Mandelbulb variation):

You have definitely found something here Matt. The detail and the lighting just seem to jump out at the observer and for organic structures I have not seen anything else like it. Well done!
