Title: Giant Alien Generaator
Post by: KRAFTWERK on July 05, 2010, 11:17:23 AM
My first attempt to make a animation in Mandelbulb 3D, sorry about clippings and bad antiaaliasing, will try harder next time...

Just to get a feeling for the images in my gallery:

Nice!

I'm still struggling with clipping in Mandelbulb 3D, so don't feel too bad about it.

I think we need a Tutorial on that topic  :educated:

Very nice ! After the wonderful images you posted, you HAD to do the animation :)

Regarding clipping in animations, I could advise the following approach in M3D :

- Use the navigator and make sure the "fixed zoom and steps" box remains unchecked
- don't target an object while moving forward if there are other objects on the trajectory
- Instead, target the nearest objects then when you are close enough, move the camera to pass by the surface the object, that gives neat results (I tend do to that in almost all my M3D animations)
- Experiment, test, try, etc... :)

Thanks bib, and thank you for the tip!

In this case I just used the parameters from the images, and of course I did not know how the clipping affected the frames in between.
I'll see if I can put some more time in to this, more keyframes might be a good idea too I think...  O0

Seams like the embed code I got from youtube was as bad as the clipping ;)

And thank you Socratese for the kind words! :)

For the Youtube link, don't use the "embed code". Simply paste the http:\\www.youtube... link and the forum will do the rest.

Thanks bib, that looks a bit cleaner...  O0

i am currently rendering a 2500 frames animation, but i do not think it will be ready before my holiday

great colors and shapes krafti, clipping is a bit disturbing ... AND WE WANT TO GO DEEPER AS ALWAYS :D

I am also rendering 2 2000+ frames animations at the same time, with some more zooming (and simultaneous transforming for one of them). This time I tried to take care of the smooth introduction and conclusion to avoid the abrupt ending effect ;)
Hopefully will be done in 1 or 2 days :)

i think i am always going far to deep ( in fact until floating pont resolution leaves me ) this makes it longer and longer and loonger ...

but it loks promising, but i have to admit that i have problems in choosing such beautiful colors

Yes, setting colors in M3D is sometimes a bit like a random process! What I do when I find a pleasant setup is save it. To that end, click on the M button at the bottom of the Lighting window and select an empty location to save your color paramters. You can also save them to disk when all locations are used.

Yeah I KNOW TRIFOX!!!  O0

Me too!, always, I think I will do that, my computer has some sparetime the next two weeks when I am on holiday! :)

I just have to start from the beginning, need to get rid of the clippings....

Looking forward to see your renderings, what pixel size are the animations you do?

Mine was only 720 x 480 pixels (cheated at the export to get hdtv  O0 ) and 1101 frames took about 12 hours... without antialiasing, but I do have an old setup...

Do yoou use AA on your current renders?

did i mention that i love the new camera movements both programs now feature ?

those really make fantastic cinematic effects, it is absolutely amazing to move the camera around
an object ...

i do not use aa, but i use a 16:9 resolution of 800x450 pixels... right now i have 1100 frames rendered in 11 hours :(

I do not use AA either. At first, I had started to render in 1440*1080 but I realized it would take too long, so I re-lauched them in 1080*720. Anyway, the result after uploading to Youtube is not very good, so why bothering with too high quality...

OK, thanks for replies T&B!

You are right, YouTube "Saved" a lot of the non AA-shit because of the bad quality ;)

I have not tried the new camera movement T ( I think ) is it kind of like Buddhis?

Have to check it out...  O0

To give you an idea of the possible camera movement in M3D, have a look at this video I did last week :

I am amazed by your navigation bib, must have spent hours just preparing that?   :o

I get the idea, might use this in the next one...  :snore:

Just don't overdo the "drunken steadicam operator" style. That still makes me as sick as it did the first time I ever saw it. It has its place, just not as default style for longer durations.

I don't remember exactly, I would say between 1 and 2 hours to setup the animation. Once you get more confident with using the different buttons to pass the parameters between the 3 windows (the main one, the 3D navigator and the animation maker), it becomes very easy. In fact, you can use only the navigator and the animation maker : click on the "Ani (f)" button to directly send the parameters from the navigator to the animation maker. The main window is optional and can be used just from time to time to check some keyframes in a large format.

BTW, Jesse, the shortcuts in the navigator are cool.....if you have a QWERTY keyboard, which is not my case (AZERTY)

Maybe I was drunk when I did it, who knows :D Did you notice that I was a fractal Bachius (the god of wine and party!)

Didnt knew that type, so changing q+a and allowing also z for upwards should help as option...

About antialiasing: 2x2 and 3x3 settings are really slow, maybe in 10 years ok.
But setting the "smooth normals" option in the calculation tab to 1 or 2 helps removing much noise.

Getting the hang of the 3D navigator and to get rid of the clippings, small gif-test:
