"Alien Interface" is not actually a quaternion - it's a Julibrot for z^2+c with the axes as zstartreal,zstartimag,creal,(cimag) and "solid" is based on orbit trapping not on iteration depth or closeness to "inside". The animation was acheived by rotating the visible 3rd dimension in the plane of creal/cimag. |
