Post by: teamfresh on May 21, 2010, 01:36:47 PM Anyone who knows me knows I love fractals and I also love the linux operating system. with the event of the modern 3d fractals it now appears I can have my cake and eat it by having the mandelbox as my desktop cube. As my desktop is not square I had to slice a chunk off of the bottom of the box but hey - that just gives me a peek at the beauty found inside the box! o here is a screencast from my computer..

They are exact slices - I used mandelbulber to create the 6 images (3 images really - 1 image is used for the four desktops) I basically used the "enable limits" option to slice a section off of the mandelbox until it had roughly the same ratio as my desktop cube - then I rendered images of the top bottom and side and used those so the images match seamlessly. oh and I used a black background when rendering the images and then used a black background for the linux skydome so that you don't really notice that the areas where there is no fractal - that should be transparent - near the corners are actually just solid black!!
