Title: Demoscene - seemingly fractal inspired Demo Post by: aluminumstudios on May 08, 2010, 11:32:16 AM I used to be (and still somewhat am) interested in the demoscene. For those have have never heard of it, it started many years ago when talented programmers would program really elaborate music videos with astounding graphics and animation under extreme constraints. These programs would sometimes be as small as 64kb or 4kb and would run on old systems like Amigas and 486's and produce animation way ahead of their time.
The scene is still going with conventions (often referred to as "parties") and newer software using GPU rendering and such. Anyway, I stumbled across a demo that had been captured and uploaded to youtube (you can usually find the original executable to download and run and watch in real-time on your own system), that seems very fractal inspired. I don't know if it uses any fractal mathematics or not, but I certainly enjoyed seeing some of the techniques and wanted to share: EDIT: I replaced the youtube link with a link to an HD version of the same video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbQhgEJuExY Title: Re: Demoscene - seemingly fractal inspired Demo Post by: silencefreedom on November 10, 2010, 01:45:22 AM It's not something new in demoscene, like sceners apply fractal in terrain, shape generating and music. Some significant groups like TBC, Looney, Conpriracy, RGBA and mfx involved mostly fractal in their work. |
