it is the type of image, the suffix ".bmp" indicates a windows bitmap file, which is normally uncompressed, meaning that it could be smaller in filesize, if saved as jpg

posting of images directly is ok

its just the type of the image :D

Isn't there already also a 900KB limit on file size for gallery uploads? The file format wouldn't magically enable that to be exceeded, surely?

no, but it makes no sense to spend precious bytes :D

this is the current quota:

4.035,07 MB of 10.000,00 MB used
free space: 5.964,93 MB

Files 164.652 of 262.144 verwendet
free 97.492

we are not at the limits right now, but i would love to not take care for it for at least one more year ....

and 400kb for a 338px × 392px sized image is in my eyes far far tooo much !

Is that limit imposed by the web host, or the gallery software?

Many hosts offer unlimited bandwidth and unlimited hosting capacity for a reasonable fee  (godaddy comes to mind - I use them for a site or two, and am quite pleased)  (yes, they support smf forums too!  :tease: )

If it is imposed by the gallery itself, and bandwidth / server capacity is not an issue, don't worry about it!  Just fill it up, then add a second Gallery to the forum.  There is no limit to the number of galleries you can install (except those imposed by web hosts and their site capacity limits) (which, if they are the issue, can be eliminated by changing hosts  :evil1: )

it is the web space limit for all my websites ( around 10 ) and the gallery has no limit.....

bandwith is not limited ( this month: 8gb until now :D, this is 2gig a day !!! )
