Title: Further upgrade for ChaosPro
Post by: chaospro on May 01, 2010, 12:04:25 PM
Hello Fractalforums members and guests,

I have uploaded a small upgrade for ChaosPro onto my website at http://www.chaospro.de (http://www.chaospro.de)
You may download it from there.

It includes several improvements for Quaternions (in ChaosPro this fractal type is used to generate Mandelbulbs).
You might want to try out the new zoom mode which makes it much easier (although not perfect) to zoom into a mandelbulb.

See the following list of new things together with links to the online documentation of ChaosPro so you can check quickly whether you want to try it out:

* Depth of Field: Makes images look more natural: http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmview.htm#DepthOfField (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmview.htm#DepthOfField)
* Fog: http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmlight.htm#FogPanel (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmlight.htm#FogPanel)
* New Zoom Mode: http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/windows/fractal_quat.htm#ZoomMode (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/windows/fractal_quat.htm#ZoomMode)
* Ambient Occlusion: http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmlight.htm#AmbientAO (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmlight.htm#AmbientAO)
* Inside View: http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmfrml.htm#InsideView (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/fractaltypes/quaternions/parmfrml.htm#InsideView)
* Distance Estimation variables:
        http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/formulacompiler/languagereference/predefinedparameters/quaternion/estimateddistance.htm (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/formulacompiler/languagereference/predefinedparameters/quaternion/estimateddistance.htm)
        http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/formulacompiler/languagereference/predefinedparameters/quaternion/currentrayindex.htm (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/formulacompiler/languagereference/predefinedparameters/quaternion/currentrayindex.htm)
        http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/formulacompiler/languagereference/predefinedparameters/quaternion/hasbeenhit.htm (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/formulacompiler/languagereference/predefinedparameters/quaternion/hasbeenhit.htm)
* Presets: http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/windows/presets.htm (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/windows/presets.htm)

For a complete list of what has been changed, see:

http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/appendix/history/history4_0_189_228.htm (http://www.chaospro.de/documentation/html/appendix/history/history4_0_189_228.htm)

Best regards,
Martin

Thanks for the updates to this Wonderful program!

Quaternion Zoom improvements look like they will be very helpful  :D

Looking forward to giving this a test drive over the weekend...

Thanks for aiding in my addiction!  :-*  :dink: Can't wait to "play"

Thanks for aiding in my addiction!  :-*  :dink: Can't wait to "play"

There is a new preset made for you: It loads an image (jpg or png) as a coloring formula so you can use that image as a layer and do other fancy stuff:
Create an Escapetime fractal. In the parameter window select the outside tab. Then choose the preset "Image Import". In order to change the image, just choose another image. You may apply a transformation in order to mirror, duplicate, distort, lens distort or do anything other with the image.

Kind regards,
Martin

Sadly Martin it's not working for me!  Must be doing something wrong.  Really like the idea of image as a coloring formula..  Anyone try this?

I too tried, but only got the image as a background.  Haven't figured out how to tile the image in Orbit Traps (is that the correct terminology?) for fanciful effects.

I'll have time to play more over the weekend...

I can't even get it as a background.. I just get more windows opened.  SHOOT ME NOW!   :fiery: BTW what's an orbits trap?  Someone needs to talk to me like I'm 5 yrs. old! :gum: :gum: :gum:

To get an image as a background, just follow the directions above, ie:  "Create an Escapetime fractal. In the parameter window select the outside tab. Then choose the preset "Image Import". In order to change the image, just choose another image. You may apply a transformation in order to mirror, duplicate, distort, lens distort or do anything other with the image."

That part was no problem.

But I had no luck getting images to do things like you've seen before.  Like one of my favorites:

(http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m278/sockratease/slices.png)

Each "slice" in that image is what I am calling an "Orbit Trap" and hoping it's the correct phrase!

With the new feature in Chaos Pro, I just get a tiled image with a Black Brot over the front.

I must be missing something...

1) exscape time fractal.. no poroblem.

2) click on outside coloring tab.

3) go to import pic.

now I have 2 windows the fractal & my imported pic! :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :hurt: :hurt: :hurt:

BTW what or whoever an "orbit trap is they are judging our competition!  lol

Sounds like the wrong import feature.  Not the one in the menu!  The new one in the parameters tab!  (little folder icon)

Your right the one on menu tab made no sense... but I do not have one in the outside coloring.. is it hiding????I even tried to add my pic files as coloring formulas.. Now that's creative! :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

Well, of course I'm not able to reproduce your Lissa, so I replaced Lissa with Jennifer Aniston.

Here is an example of what I've achieved by playing around a few minutes:

(http://www.chaospro.de/fractalforums/imgmapping.jpg)

Such images are easy to obtain: You only need to play around with transformations. Here is the example parameter entry (Copy&Paste into ChaosPro, but you need to replace Jennifer with Lissa, of course!):

I just chose the tab "Mapping" and added a transformation. You may download/import the UltraFractal formulas. Those from Damien M. Jones are my favorites, so I chose dmj-NovaJulia from dmj.ctr.

As you can see, there are hundreds (thousands) of transformations when having downloaded them from the UF database. A wide field to play with...

But it depends on what you want to achieve.

Better (more fantastic) results could be obtained by writing a formula and coloring not by using the gradient, but by using a pixel from Lissa :)

Kind regards,
Martin

Ok how do I get the image that large.. without getting into trouble here!  I've been told to not use attachments, & use the URL thru photobucket; which BTW is like a thumnail image...

BTW thanks Matin! :angel1: :angel1: :angel1:

Thanks for the "tutorial" Martin - I'll have to play a bit this evening   O0

And BW-Angel - the "img tag" is the trick here.  The way the forum handles external images is by placing the web address in between two "tags" like this:

Code:
[img]PICTUREURL[/img]

You can't make ANY typographical errors in that bit!!  I see in some of your efforts that the img tag is sometimes missing a bit of code, like an opening bracket or something.  The first tag tells the system there is a url for an image coming, and the second tag - with the "/" in it - tells the system that the url has ended and to retrieve & display whatever image lives there.  Needless to say, any typos - even an extra "space" - will result in the image not displaying.  The tags and the URL have no spaces in between them.

As for the "thumbnail" size images, you have to input the code for the actual image, not it's thumbnail.  Photobucket will create thumbnails to make viewing albums easier, but those thumbnails link to actual images.  If you are having issues copying the code they provide, just navigate to the actual image (large sized version) and then "right click" on it - choose "view image" (may be phrased differently depending upon your browser) and then just copy the url from the address bar of your browser and put that in between the img tags in your post here!

Sounds complicated when you break it down to the tiny details like that, but it's really quite simple once you get the hang of it  :evil1:

If that's unclear, ask for clarification about whatever part is troublesome!

Now to see about those Transformations I was unable to apply last time I tried  (http://www.lissawhipped.com/forum/Smileys/default/smile13.gif)

I wanted to get this working before I retired for the night...

(http://www.sockrateaze.com/stuff/lissascapetime.jpg)

Nothing spectacular,  (except - of course! - for the Subject Matter  :nerd: ) but a quick proof of concept!

My issue was just me being too literal...  I forgot that a Transformation is not called by that name directly on the user-interface - and I began to simply think of it as "Mapping" over the years, and dropped the word Transformation from how I thought about using ChaosPro!

If I wanted to try and save face, I'd blame my recent Brain Problems...  but I know me.  I was just being dense on this one.   :clown:

In reference to where added photo ends up in fractal....seems to depend on fratal; with some it will just end up in background.  Here is one the green with "Bubbles" is my added art (not fractal)
