Title: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: Buddhi on April 29, 2010, 08:18:43 PM I'm experimenting with additional light-sources. During testing efficiency of shading algorithm I rendered image with 40000 light-sources distributed inside Mandelbox. Each light cast shadow and is rendered with specular effect. Rendering time was 1h 45min. Below is result.

You'd better say... Quote Each light cast shadow and is rendered with spectacular effect. Because it is. :dink: Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: bib on April 29, 2010, 08:28:23 PM I don't understand where are the 40000 light sources. I can count about 70 on the picture. Is it because it is a zoomed view?
Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: Jesse on April 29, 2010, 08:48:47 PM Very nice!
Did you calculate 40000 dot-products for each pixel? Think that would be too slow... Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: Rathinagiri on April 29, 2010, 08:51:49 PM Very nice.

Yes, there was calculated 40000x2 dot-products. x2 because there are also calculated specular reflection effect. Most of light are invisible because are out of screen or covered by Mandelbox structures. Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: cbuchner1 on April 29, 2010, 09:44:23 PM And I thought Disco was so out of fashion. But it looks nice ;) Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: kram1032 on April 29, 2010, 11:08:01 PM looks great :D
I guess, they're distributed randomly, right? Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: Pauldelbrot on April 30, 2010, 01:29:36 AM And I thought Disco was so out of fashion. Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: M Benesi on April 30, 2010, 06:34:31 AM It's only a matter of time before a tron-like Mandelbox videogame...
Makes me wonder if Nethack type video games, or even Diablo 3 (newest nethack type- or should I say newest Omega type (the best roguelike ever)), use fractal level generation algorithms. I suppose I should remember.... Awesome job. In another 33 years you will be creating the greatest video game ever: an evolving fractal universe that changes variables dynamically (such as scale, rotations, etc.) on the quantumbox, in which various fractal based spells (algorithms) will be used to attack other players by altering specific fractal parameters to disrupt their patterns. In another 5, I will do that in my mind, with various natural quantum fractal algorithms available to humanity at the moment (which outmatch our current silicon based computational algorithms by google tetrated to the google order of magnitude). Speaking of which, time to make a tetration formula for ChaosPro, if there is not one already. Image will be posted when done. 2d first... then 3d. :D Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: KRAFTWERK on April 30, 2010, 09:18:25 AM Beautiful moody image Buddhi

During testing efficiency of shading algorithm I rendered image with 40000 light-sources distributed inside Mandelbox. I don't understand where are the 40000 light sources. I can count about 70 on the picture. Depends on where all of those lights are pointing to, and whether or not multiple lights are pointing to the same area. Then again, were all of the lights turned on?? ;D And I thought Disco was so out of fashion. It does remind one of the old mirrored ball reflecting splashes of light in multiple directions. But with 40,000 small mirrors, that is what heck of a "disco ball". ;D I do like the effect of the image. :) Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: Pauldelbrot on May 01, 2010, 03:54:29 AM In another 33 years you will be creating the greatest video game ever: an evolving fractal universe that changes variables dynamically (such as scale, rotations, etc.) on the quantumbox, in which various fractal based spells (algorithms) will be used to attack other players by altering specific fractal parameters to disrupt their patterns. Harry Kim: "Kal-toh? That's, like, Vulcan chess, right?" Tuvok, in the driest, most acerbic tone imaginable: "Kal-toh is to chess as chess is to tic-tac-toe." Title: Re: 40000 light-sources inside Mandelbox Post by: Buddhi on May 01, 2010, 11:19:02 AM Because you don't believe me that there was 40000 light sources, I have rendered some another image with Mandelbulb. Now there are 10000 light-sources but distributed much more dense and very near fractal surface. Rendering time was 1h 35 min

Distribution of light sources seems random. Is there any possibility to distribute them following the shape and its recusivity ? A mandelbox could become a gorgeous sci-fi giant city/cruiser/space station...
