I never could quite get the stereoscopic effects to work for me. Must be related to being dyslexic. I need the viewers (like "Viewmaster" style reels) to see such things really working. This type of 3D images is called universal LRL images which consist of Left - Right - Left eye images. First two pics can be used by parallel viewers to feel the depth and the last two pics can be used by cross viewers to feel the depth. That's all. I found this "stereo animation" interesting. For deeper zooms, the degree would be 0.1 or even less. If you select -1 degree and +1 degree as the observer eye angle for the left and the right eyes respectively, the 3D effect would be in between -1 and + 1 ie., 0 degree. I got it to work... unfortunately it started making me feel ill after a while so I went back to normal images. I was trying it on realllly complex images that were slightly too large (so made viewing ... harder, although it worked). Actually I do see only on cross eye. Parallel is difficult for me.
The tri-tiled picture is having Left-Right-Left (shortly LRL) images, there by both parallel viewing and cross eye viewing people can see the image. Parallel eye viewing persons should see the first two images (that is Left and Right in that order) and Cross eye viewing persons should see the second and third images (that is Right and Left in that order). Maybe strong reading glasses will do it. Edit: Of course, this can only work on small images where its distance matches the eye distance. On bigger images you had to use such an instrument like they had in the beginning of photography that uses mirrors or prism... Once, I made a pseudo-Menger sponge that had a sponge, inside a sponge, inside a sponge (the center had the whole sponge in it, as did its center, etc..) by setting a check value too low in a formula. It seems to me, from looking at the difference between the left and right images, that the parallel one should be more distinctly 3D, because the view from the two eyes is more different than it is in the cross-eyed version. For example look at the two images of the trench in the green cube (the third-last one you posted)--the difference between left and right is much more striking in the parallel view than the cross-eyed view. Could someone who is able to visualize both kinds confirm or deny that this makes a better 3d illusion?

In the top it is arranged as left and right images. In the bottom it is arranged as right and left images. If in a stereo picture, no object is blocking another object, that can be viewed in both the methods viz cross eye and parallel eye. you're letting the secret out (!) :dink: You are right; it is not that we need paired pictures to see stereographic 3D, it is the number of pseudo-repeating items in the horizontal plane that gives the illusion. Therefore we can learn that all manner of repeating items can become 3D. I first noticed this many years ago when feeling particularly tired whilst reading. My soft gaze on the page would make some of the similar repeating letters want to jump out. (try it) I ignored this at the time as just an interesting phenomenon. I noticed it again later on when I had an Amiga computer with a desktop screen made up entirely of a series of tiny layered squares - - and on occasion when I soft focused into the screen (no going cross-eyed here), the blocks jumped out at me and I could see a definite background depth 'hiding' beyond the icons (which stayed on the 'surface'). This caused me to experiment with basic repeating little pictures (mainly spheres or boxes) ever smaller and numerous in layers across the screen, but I never was able to control which items jumped forward and which items receded into the background (I just don't know why some do what they do but I'm sure it's something about width placement and distance between one's eyes) so they just did their own thing. (I first noticed because of the flame fractal stereographs.) The image in #238 looks all the temple a temple could be - except for people, hmmmm... I hope I am not offending; your work is exquisite. And I do in fact mean that I was very much reminded of a temple (altar, shrine, sanctuary, etc) when I first saw the depth of your image (when I managed to cross my eyes just so).
