Title: Layering
Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on April 26, 2010, 07:51:17 PM
Ok I can import image from my camera.  But just cannot seem to figure out how to layer it into a fractal.  Does image need to be "calculated?"  Rendered?   I've tried select all, then cut, paste like in my Pixlr photo editing program..but it's not working.  Also playing with 3D lanscapes.. but that's going slow too!  Anyone got anything done with these?

When you say "Layering" - wht do you mean?

Do you mean using the image in "orbit traps" like these:

Which can lead to things like this:

And ultimately (using a couple other programs) to This:

Or do you mean just plain old layering like in an image editor?

The above images were brought into Chaos Pro using a little program called, not surprisingly, "Bring It In" - but I could not find links to where I got it!!

Mutatorkammer natively uses images for play - you may have seen these before:

It even animates them!

Sorry...

I get carried away posting images of Lissa!!  :tease:

Again, how so?

I have done things like this, using a 3D Mandelbrot from Chaos Pro, brought into Carrara (my 3D Art Application of Choice):

This is aptly titled - A Snowflake's Chance In Hell

It used to be located at the following:

how to layer it into a fractal.  Does image need to be "calculated?"  Rendered?
I've tried select all, then cut, paste like in my Pixlr photo editing program..

Are you wanting to:
 •  use the photo to create a fractal pattern from the image??
 •  merge and/or mask the photo with a rendered fractal??
 •  use the photo as a background??
 •  or what ??

Nahee all of the above!  Sockratease did a decent job of showing examples with his "muse"

I seem to have more ambition than talent!

I guess I have to improve the import feature for images...
Most of what you want can be achieved with a special formula which has a two dimensional array as a parameter.
That way you have a standard Escapetime fractal and just use that specific formula for coloring.

Unfortunately I saw that the import is not correct for some jpg files. Have to search for the bug. Will provide the formula as a standard formula to use.

Kind regards,
Martin

Thanks Martin!  I have made some progress!  Very happy when I finally (last frame) got the breot on kitty!

I think it's obvious I'd get quite a bit of use out of it if you did!   ::)

Here's a use for the idea that actually does NOT feature Lissa!

I just plugged this image from Chaoscope into Mutatorkammer and got a bunch of Wonderful results!

And One More!

These were done before ChaosPro incorporated Strange Attractors, but I still like the idea of feeding a fractal from one program into another and getting stuff neither program could make by itself  :evil1:

Feeding one program into another?  Doesn't do me much good!  BTW what's the dif between ChaosPro & Chaos scope?  Actually should be3 easier to layer in maunframe rather than the 3D landscape.  But everytime I try to "copy & paste"  2 images together I just get more windows opened up. :fiery:

Ohh & some windows have same title as my photos but are black.  I have even gotten them set up to be rendered. but when I press "add" they do not.

OK I got this done with 3D landscape. Swirly fractal with me on my trike.  Could be clearer... Cannot get larger image posted here???

Chaoscope (free at http://www.chaoscope.org ) is yet another fractal generator, and one of my favorites!

It deals mostly with strange attractors and is exclusively 3D  (no "escapetime" Mandelbrots there).

I didn't feed one program to another!!  I fed the output from one program to another.

I never liked layering fractals, and don't use the technique except in post work using image editors. So I'm not sure what to suggest about that issue...  But I'm pretty sure the image has to be converted to a coloring algorithm before it can be used in a fractal generator.

Just downloaded Chaoscope..  Very different :-\  But I was finding that ChaosPro was not doing everything I wanted.  Or like this forum... aam I doing it wrong or are their bugs/glitchs  not being informed of things....

Did you read through the manual?

It gives pretty clear instructions on how it works.  But yes, it is a very different sort of program!

If you have any specific questions, you know what to do!

And now for something completely different!  Very clear & concise.  One path for the beginner.  With ChaosPro There were too many options & directions for a newbie like me.   Slide bars are cool!  Ohh I solved my layering problem by using Pixlr.   BTW I still have only gotten thru about half of the ChaosPro tutorials that I have copied.  'bout an inch high of paper!
