Title: Just joined Post by: MarkJayBee on April 22, 2010, 08:04:02 PM Hi all,
I've recently caught fractalitis, and think I'm now seriously hooked! Can you get patches or somesuch for this condition?! I've always been fascinated by fractals, basically since the early '80's or thereabouts - think there was something on 'Tomorrow's world' or 'Horizon', and I thought, "you'd have to be an Einstein to produce artwork with this stuff". Now it's the 21st century, and the multitude of free software available is mouthwatering! I'm having to make an effort not to just download everything I find! Am currently exploring the potential of a few though; Apophysis, ChaosPro, Incendia, Fractal Explorer to name but a few. Tried Mandelbulb, and have found the lack of a help facility a bit frustrating. Would dearly love to produce something like 'Buddhi' is capable of, love the way he says things like 'rendered with my own program....'! Alas, I'm not a mathematician, so am going to have a lot of guesswork and 'footering aboot' ahead of me - aye, I'm a Scot! Thanks for having me, and any advice, crit', hints and tips welcomed. Title: Re: Just joined Post by: Sockratease on April 22, 2010, 08:30:54 PM Hello and Welcome to the forum!
When you say you tried "Mandelbulb" - which program are you using? There are quite a few with that word in the name. I'm sure you can find help with whatever is giving you difficulty here, just try to ask something specific and answers will be easier O0 I look forward to seeing some of your work. Don't forget there is a Contest going on just now, so feel free to toss in an entry or three! Title: Re: Just joined Post by: MarkJayBee on April 22, 2010, 08:46:26 PM Hi, Thanks for the welcome!
I've been trying to use Mandelbulb 3D v1.4, everything goes great until I try to rotate or move the 'bulb', then I seem to end up inside the thing! As I mentioned I'm definitely not a mathematician - always been an intuitive type - hence the 'traditional' artwork thing. I'm sure I'm missing some simple action which will allow me to move the bulb where I want it. Zooming seems a little hit and miss too - oooo hard to please, aren't I?! Btw, also had a wee go with Buddhi's Mandelbulber, I'm sure it's capable of wonderful things - just amazed by his images! But not at the level I'm at! :embarrass: Title: Re: Just joined Post by: Sockratease on April 22, 2010, 08:53:41 PM I love Mandelbulb 3D as well!
Zooming *is* tricky in that program. I often "cheat" when I just want to get a larger view of an area by rendering HUGE images, then cropping them. Mandelbulb 3D is still a "Beta" version of the program. Each new release brings new and better stuff, so hopefully this will be addressed in a future update :surf: Don't worry about not being a Mathematician - many of us here get lost when the discussions get too technical. I myself only have a limited programming background - and I'm quite a long time removed from school - so I often have no idea how I am making the pretty pictures I spew forth. But I refuse to let that stop me! I'm a Stubborn Old Hippy!! O0 Title: Re: Just joined Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on April 22, 2010, 08:58:01 PM Welcome fellow Scot! Pretty much same situation here too! Hopefully my lack of math skills will be compensated by my enthuseasm. Used to collect abstract pics. now I want to make them myself. I've asked a lot of questions & they haven't kicked me out YET! I also cannor quiote get the "zoom" thing under control.
Title: Re: Just joined Post by: MarkJayBee on April 22, 2010, 09:26:07 PM Phew, glad to hear I'm not the only one having connipshins (?) with the zoom
feature. I'll keep plugging away at it, until one of us gives in - and it won't be me!! Like a Jack Russell wi' a slipper, me! O0 Bit of an ole hippy masel'! Peace! Am currently exploring the potential of a few though; Apophysis, ChaosPro, Incendia, Fractal Explorer to name but a few. Tried Mandelbulb, and have found the lack of a help facility a bit frustrating. I've been trying to use Mandelbulb 3D v1.4, everything goes great until I try to rotate or move the 'bulb', then I seem to end up inside the thing! ..... Zooming seems a little hit and miss too.... Greetings, and Welcome to this particular Forum !!! :) When using Mandelbulb3D, I have found that the use of the icon buttons (lower left-hand portion of the window) are best used for doing general zooming and positioning, when I want larger increments and kind of know how I want it to be like. For more intricate zooming and positioning, I just use the text box fields to alter the existing values by 0.1 through 0.5 for moderate adjustments. Or by 0.01 through 0.05 for very fine adjustments. (At least this method works for me.) :) |
