If uploading them, try again!  The file path may have been changed recently.

Another option is to host them externally.

Or maybe try attaching one to a post and linking to the url it gives when you look at the image?

Nope the photobucket thing has not worked either.  I do have a chioce of 3 different ones; but I believe they belong to someone else! As soon as I leave the sight for any length of time the red X is back!

That's very odd.

My avatar has been hosted on photobucket since I joined this forum years ago!  It has never vanished or had a problem of which I am aware.

We are working on getting the avatar system sorted out, so give it another day or few...

Meanwhile, what is the URL of your externally hosted avatar?  Maybe I can set it for you using my Super Moderator Powers!  :gum:

The Bent-Winged Angel that I used as an attachment the other day would be coo.l but probably too large.

You had a typographical error in the URL set up in your profile - it said "http://" twice in the address line for the image!

Not really.  They used to be a different color.  You have now moved up to a new level, based upon the number of postings.  The previous level was in the "below 100" grouping.

Thanks Nahee!  that explains a lot!  Good to know I did not flunk out.  Soo now I'm middle scholler (entry level ofcourse)  :)
BTW very cool thought out system!

It mostly takes only 10 postings to get from one level to the next within the first category grouping.  The second category grouping requires 50 postings between each level.  The last group takes 150 postings between each level.     :)

These Forums took awhile to get laid out in the beginning, and they are still a work in progress today, just not that much re-design going on at the moment.
 

Tried a 80x80 jpeg but still no avatar. Do I have to use an external avatar?
Size is 24176 bytes.

Well, External Avatar works. Sucks the "I will load my own picture" option just doesnt work. It goes through the throws of uploading, but never shows the picture.
