but cant find it right now ... Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: cKleinhuis on April 15, 2010, 09:47:00 PM i found the thread, get ultrafractal5 and try the config from the first thread post!

Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Sockratease on April 15, 2010, 10:30:26 PM I can't see it without getting "ultrafractal5? They say ChaosPro can take UF Formulas, but I never had much luck with anything but only the most basic ones. Maybe somebody more familiar with UltraFractal can help here. I would have many uses for this! I have image editors in which I am often making octagonal tiles - hoping to one day find software that can tile them to make textures for my 3D Work... Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on April 15, 2010, 10:52:41 PM OK now you have totally confused me...because when I'm choosing a fractal in ChasoPro I have had the BEST luck choosing from their selection of UF. BTW I have only been doing this a few months. Dazed & coonfused in the most determined way!

BTW I have only been doing this a few months. Dazed & coonfused in the most determined way! I never had a problem using the UF Formulas that come with ChaosPro, it's importing the custom ones that are hit-and-miss with me. They either work right away or freeze the program :alien: Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: cKleinhuis on April 15, 2010, 11:23:47 PM just try the formula out with the free version of uf5, i just love ultrafractal, because it was the program i am admiring since end of 90!!!
in fact this program is somehow the founder of nowadays formula systems, most of the other programs, as chaoscope support import for it ... but the problem is the huge external formulas database, which has to be actualized in other programs as well ... and it is getting bigger and bigger :D Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! But I still just don't get along with the interface, despite the similarities to ChaosPro. Something about it just doesn't "click" with my brain. Working with UF is, for me, well... Work! I tend to just Play more with other programs, and enjoy the results - but I really struggle with UltraFractal just to get basic stuff done. I tried reading through the manual, but it didn't help me much. It's just on the list of programs that I know are capable of Great Things, but which I personally don't care for :-\ Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on April 26, 2010, 03:42:06 PM As far as I'm concerned it's not "really" a kaleidoscope unless it's animated. I read somewhere here that a member Duncan? said that he would like to see animated ones here. Sorry not could not relocate thread. But here is another animated collection of kaleids!
http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit?ns=1&video_id=1Gmip5zIsQQ&next=%2Fmy_videos Anyone else here have any animated ones? Would really like to see! Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Would really like to see! I have created graphics that basically apply the kaleidoscope technique using fractal images, but nothing animated in that way. But I have seen a few in other groups, just do not remember seeing any here within these Forums. Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on April 27, 2010, 08:58:05 PM Actually I'm quite surprised that as far as I've seen I'm the only one here making them. Great eye candy!

Well, don't stop now... you may start something and get others involved. :D Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on April 28, 2010, 06:30:27 PM I sure hope so! That's one of the reasons why I joined. to see how others do the things that interest me. Maybe a 3D kaleid?

Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Nahee_Enterprises on May 05, 2010, 02:24:06 PM hmmm now I'm thinkin 3D. Can it be done? Yes, it can !!! :) I have seen one before, just not sure at the moment where that was. Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on May 06, 2010, 05:47:46 PM hmmm not quite getting the 3D thing now. But in the meantime howsa 'bout an "embossed" kaleid? :tease: :tease:

Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on May 06, 2010, 10:02:40 PM I do mine with ChaosPro!
The basics.... Parameters window choose "kaleidagon" Then if you scroll down you will haver other options. Play with it a bit.. Animation window click add. play againn then add again etc.. Embossing is done as aliasing rendering choice. (custom) Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on May 10, 2010, 08:35:44 PM Here is another option.. make one with your own photos!

Post by: thetark on June 10, 2010, 08:54:20 PM I have been working on generating kaleidoscopes from fractal images for several months. While it is still experimental, here is my first attempt.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf8p2BWSJBY How it was made: I selected the base fractal image from one that I made using a 2D fractal generation program. I then developed a technique in POVRay to create a moving kaleidoscope from an image, adding texture (this video rendered on a 30-60-90 triangle image), and used the audio data from the music to determine lighting and image motion effects. The final sequence was constructed from 9,960 frames that took 8+ days to render in POVRay. Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on June 11, 2010, 05:09:47 PM WOW you do it from "scratch" Grat soundtrack, & heathered tones! Beautiful presenntation.. Thanks... not I have to get back to work!
Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: aluminumstudios on June 12, 2010, 12:32:08 PM Bent Winged Angel - The frame rates seem really low. To be honest I find that really distracting. Can you render them at 24 frames/sec or higher? They'll look much more fluid then.

Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: aluminumstudios on June 30, 2010, 03:54:07 PM Art is in the eye of the beholder and there may very well be an aesthetic that I am missing, but I can't enjoy choppy animations with such low frame rates. My personal suggestion would be to put a little more effort and render time into animations, then they may catch people's eyes better (at least mine.)
(I don't mean to be too harsh and I'm not implying that all fractal works has to be "flashy" to be enjoyable, but this is a little to minimalistic for my own tastes.) Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on June 30, 2010, 05:22:34 PM aluminumstudios-thanks for the feedback. Still much to learn.. low frame rates. choppy. I thought the lower the better??. (learning curve, steep very steep!)
Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on June 30, 2010, 05:58:28 PM In ChaosPro (what I normally use for animations the frames per sec. has always been set at 15. Never messed with it. Now the FE I just recently started to play with. Really have not checked FPS.
Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: aluminumstudios on July 01, 2010, 12:38:12 AM Movies are 24 frames/sec and TV is either 25 or 30 frames/sec depending weather you live in a country that uses the PAL standard (Europe) or the NTSC standard (America, Japan)
In general 25 frames/sec. or higher looks like smooth animation to the eye, while the eye can clearly detect a lack of smoothness or stutter with anything less. Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: jehovajah on July 01, 2010, 09:26:38 AM This looked like some crazy Amoeba doing its funky thing to the music! Cool jazz, cats,.. cool jazz!
Title: Re: Kaleidoscopes! Post by: Bent-Winged Angel on July 01, 2010, 05:03:33 PM Although aluminumstudios is correct on my needing to take more time to render & increase the FPS on my videos.. I do agree with jehovah about the last video. It does not need to be smooth being that it had that "primitive" tribal look! :D Cool jazz..nah Blues bros, "Harmonica Blues" But yes very funky! O0
