and probs, and respects to all creators of the images, i think the whole article will feature images from users here! congratulations, it is going on! lol, damn they could have featured the compo :D Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: Sockratease on March 27, 2010, 11:55:19 AM I have an issue of New Scientist from last year that specifically mentions Fractalforums.com when discussing the mandelbulb! It was just a one page article, but still...
Not sure if you knew about it. I'll go dig it out and post the issue it came from. EDIT - Here's the online article: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn18171-the-mandelbulb-first-true-3d-image-of-famous-fractal.html (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn18171-the-mandelbulb-first-true-3d-image-of-famous-fractal.html) A modified version of the article, which also mentions this forum, appeared in print in the November 28th, 2009 issue on page 56. Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: Buddhi on March 27, 2010, 03:08:10 PM Hi
Do you remember my image? (http://www.fractalforums.com/gallery/1/thumb_640_01_12_09_10_02_34.jpg) http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1116 On the cover of this issue there is remastered version of this image :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Congratulations to Daniel White on publication of his images in Spectrum magazine Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: cKleinhuis on March 27, 2010, 03:35:41 PM i hope they asked for permission ?
Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: Buddhi on March 27, 2010, 03:56:58 PM i hope they asked for permission ? Of course they have permission from me. The asked me to produce this image in higher resolution and with little different view. I prepared for them special version of this image. It took 30 hours to render this because for rendering sliced Mandelbulb there is needed very high maximum number of iterations (around 150)Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: hobold on March 27, 2010, 05:02:42 PM wow, i will go and buy that magazine right now ! O0 I don't think this issue will be on the newsstands before monday. Only subscribers may get it a few days earlier.Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: twinbee on March 27, 2010, 08:01:09 PM Congrats Buddhi on the front page - I love that picture!
Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: bib on March 27, 2010, 08:06:46 PM Congratulations Buddhi! There should also be one of my images in the article. Can't wait to receive my paper copy :):)
Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: Sockratease on March 27, 2010, 09:10:23 PM Well Done Buddhi!!
It's great to see that on the cover O0 :toast: :music:   chilli   :music: :toast: Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: reesej2 on March 27, 2010, 10:13:02 PM Congrats! It's good to see people from Fractal Forums getting recognized! :D
Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: Buddhi on March 27, 2010, 10:18:48 PM Congratulations Buddhi! There should also be one of my images in the article. Can't wait to receive my paper copy :):) Congratulations also for you Bib. I saw one of your images in preview of the magazine. I also can't wait for paper copy. Many thanks to all FractalForums members. It was work of all of us to create Mandelbulb theory and rendering algorithms. It is honour to work with you. Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: kram1032 on March 28, 2010, 01:16:04 PM Yay :D
Congrats! :D Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: KRAFTWERK on March 29, 2010, 10:09:44 AM COOL!!! O0
Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: hobold on March 30, 2010, 02:56:25 PM The magazine is finally on sale from today on. This time they have really done the Mandelbulb justice. The "history" of the discovery is there, along with a detailed explanation of the construction.
I guess we can expect a bunch of new explorers to dedicate their mental and computational resources to the quest for the holy grail. :) Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: bib on March 30, 2010, 03:08:23 PM I forgot to mention, an article about the Mandelbulb was published in the French magazine Science & Vie (Science & Life) in February.

A missed opportunity to recruit even more minds for the ... fractal crusade. Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: bib on March 30, 2010, 04:11:13 PM My french is only just good enough to state with some confidence that those two authors did not plagiarize each other. :) There does not seem to be a detailed guide to the construction of the formula in the French article, no? No. This newspaper is very basic. Title: Re: Title Page of Spektrum der Wissenschaft Post by: Timeroot on March 30, 2010, 06:53:43 PM ...on the other hand, they used that same zoom sequence for the Mandelbrot which is on Wikipedia, YouTube, etc... I'm glad about the publicity though! :dink:
