Title: Ice Floes Post by: Pauldelbrot on March 09, 2010, 05:49:24 AM (http://u5789.direct.atpic.com/28590/0/1724773/1024.jpg) (http://pic.atpic.com/1724773/1024) Name: Ice Floes Date: February 22, 2009 Fractal: Triple Matchmaker Julia set Location: a = -0.08965730006 - 0.4859673986i; b = -0.071825 + 0.054745i; c = -0.570806 + 3.432997i; d = 0 Depth: Very Shallow Min Iterations: 30 Max Iterations: 450 Layers: 3 Anti-aliasing: 3x3, threshold 0.1, depth 1 Preparation time: 5 minutes Calculation time: 10 minutes (2GHz dual-core Athlon XP) Notes: A Triple Matchmaker Julia set with two attractors. Low iterations combined with being able to get away with weak, adaptive AA equals a quick render. The "water" is one basin, and is a single layer colored by convergent smoothed iterations. The "ice" is the other basin, and is two layers, one colored by convergent smoothed iterations and one by phi angle. They are combined such that higher iteration areas have coloring determined primarily by phi angle and lower iteration areas by the iterations, smoothing out the sharp conical points that the phi angle coloring would otherwise produce at the centers of the "floes". The lens-flare-like effect is a fortuitous accident. Freely redistributable and usable subject to the Creative Commons Attribution license, version 3.0. |
