Title: Hi again.
Post by: Sockratease on February 28, 2010, 02:56:36 PM
Long Time members here may remember me.

I used to be quite active here, but fell in and out of posting when the woman I love got sick.  Lissa has Diabetes and slipped into ketoacidosis - almost died.  Scariest thing that ever happened to me!!

Then I got diagnosed with 2 menginomas in my brain, and had to undergo a bunch of radiation therapy.

We're both recovering now, but it kept me focused on my online activities that actually make me money (this crap is Fluffing Expensive without insurance in America!!!).

But I'm finally getting some leisure time again, and have been playing with Fractals again :)

I hope I can stay this time - my luck has been so bad that I can't promise anything, but I'll try!

Still enjoying my 3 favorite Fractal Generators the most - Mutatorkammer, Chaoscope, and Chaos Pro.

Just saw the new Mandelbulb stuffs in Chaos Pro and they look like fun.

I think I finally need to wrap what's left of my brain around povray so I can export the mandelbulbs as 3D objects, then convert them into something one of my 3D Programs can work with.  Been using Carrara and Bryce a lot for some jobs, and try to incorporate Fractal obj models whenever possible.

I'll look around for some images worth posting.

Meanwhile...  Hi!

I see many familiar names in the list on the home page, and look forward to renewing old acquaintances and meeting new folks.

And giving my New Brain a test drive with whatever new Fractal Generators have turned up!  I'm still on the lookout for ones that will export obj files directly for my other programs to enjoy.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I have the free version of Xenodream, and it's rapidly becoming a mainstay - and I have heard that something called OGLE (Open GL Extractor) can make obj files by intercepting the Open GL display data from any software using Open GL.  That sounds interesting, but I haven't tried using it yet.

OK enough ranting - I'll go read and play around here for a bit.

Glad to see how much this place has grown since I last was here!

Hey there, I wondered what had happened to you.  Glad to see you are still alive (one never knows these days who will be next).

As to programs that will save 3-D fractal objects for importing into 3-D rendering applications, my suggestions are as follows:

  •  ChaosPro
  •  Mystic Fractal programs (several)
  •  XenoDream

The latter two have Trial versions available to try out.  And you can find the Mandelbulb formulas in the first two selections.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome back

I have not tried the Mystic Fractal programs, but Love ChaosPro & XenoDream.

But Chaos pro needs povray to convert the quaternion 3D Export to something usable, and last time I tried...  I sort of got nowhere!  But as I always say - "What is Nowhere if not a contraction of Now and Here?"

So I may just give it another go.

Gotta take on a challenge if I'm going to get my brain back in shape!!

Thanks, and I'm glad to see you're still running the place.

Getting sick SUCKS!

Apparently the New Health Care Plan in America is "Don't get sick."  They seem to think that health care overhaul only means making more people buy insurance - nothing to really HELP those who need it.  Just to be sure that the Big Insurance Companies get more customers.

I'm hoping they get the idea before they actually pass a law...

Well, it does not cost you anything to download the TRIAL versions and give them a go:

I am partial to QuaSZ myself, but between it and Fractal ZPLot, those are the ones I have used the most out of Terry Gintz's applications.  I feel they fit in well with ChaosPro and XenoDream, the other two programs that you like so well.
