Title: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: cKleinhuis on July 02, 2017, 01:07:03 PM so, just reviewed entries, checked my numbers, and since it is the last official compo run by me i want to give every entrant a prize, we have 37 competitors, everyone is eligible to choose one image of their submissions and i am going to send each of you a cup honoring your joining of the forums competition - the forums has always been a very personal thing for me, and i want to reflect that by honoring everyone who helped throughout the years making it what it actually had become .... i am preparing an email address where you have to send your prepared and sized image along with your address, it will be processed by me throughout the end of the year ... thank you people!
there wont be any further voting this year - being part is everything! Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: cKleinhuis on July 02, 2017, 01:11:52 PM here is a list of the contributors and their entry counts

I sadly didn't get the chance to enter. Real life keeps getting in the way of my fractal hobby. I haven't really been able to play about trying to generate new fractals for a while. Got my fingers in too many pies as it is. Very happy to have taken part in this forum over the years I've been a member. Looking forward to the future with a new forum. Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Sockratease on July 02, 2017, 01:57:00 PM Interesting decision, Christian!
I'm sure it's one that all involved will remember. What sorts of preparations and sizes will you need for images? It's not posted. I think it has to be at least 300 dpi for a quality reproduction, but what about pixel dimensions? And large images may be too big for email. Should people use an external host? And which ones can be counted on to not resample things and lower the quality? Maybe I can set up a way to host them on my site (Good Old Sockratease.com (http://www.sockratease.com) - still in the "coming soon" phase publicly, but a lot of private use for my clients online). Thanks for a Decade of promoting All Things Fractal, and we look forward to seeing that Museum you dream of becoming a reality O0 Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: 0xbeefc0ffee on July 02, 2017, 07:59:01 PM Awesome, now I'll be part of the esteemed society of people who have one of these coffee cups.

I am taking that as the official passing of the torch. We can handle the locking down of this site and the transition to the new one. We welcome your input along the way and will take this slowly to be sure it is done Properly! Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Alef on July 04, 2017, 04:31:07 PM Wow, cool. So I no matter what I can be winer.
Then realy I would prefare the most top image of mine exept joke about 3D mandelbrot. Notice. Voting in still frame postcard section is locked. I had been able to vote just in wildstyle section and "Film - Fractalforums Postcard" section I didn't voted becouse I would not been able to watch it all. Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Dinkydau on July 06, 2017, 11:52:58 PM I didn't participate because the times that I did, it felt like I was just entering the images that I happened to make when the competiton was going. I would have made them regardless of the competition. Reading this I do kinda regret I didn't participate.

I would have made them regardless of the competition. Reading this I do kinda regret I didn't participate. Then it's perfect timing to start fresh in The Next Iteration of Fractal Forums! We are making lots of progress on the Mark II site and will be having a "Public Beta Test" in the coming weeks. Expect an Inaugural Competition at the new site if we can swing it - it may not have great prizes if we can't find sponsors, but it will be fun and different! The Annual Tradition is nice and will probably carry over as well, but that is getting ahead of things... Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Diddum on July 07, 2017, 10:44:46 AM It feels a bit like cheating, since unfortunately I discovered and joined this forum only so recently...
Anyway, thanks!. Giovanni Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: schizo on July 11, 2017, 08:56:57 PM Yeah. Thanx for everybody who was and is part of the fun. It was a decade full of interesting fractal life and I am sure another one will follow. So much possibilities and things to explore and develop.
Don't underestimate how important this forum is to keep the core people together and everything running. And getting this (quite nerd) stuff into big commercial films is a huge success. Beside that our fractal worlds have inspired so many people in various ways and made the world a bit more "WOW!" :dink: Thank you Christian for making all this possible! :thanks1: See you in the next iteration ... Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: weavers on July 12, 2017, 08:18:27 AM We second that man!
Thank you Christian, a thousand times, for making all this possible! We, too, R grateful to thee, for it is U, born to B. The founder, the curator, innovator, trailblazer, Fractal Instigator, originator of Fractal history, through your visions decisions,, through your insight, producer of a place where Masterminds of the Fractal Art, can call a home, and dwell! Thank you! From Intermind Weavers! . Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Sockratease on July 12, 2017, 11:20:11 AM Christian's decade running this site has seen fractals make great strides into 3D and even Hollywood!
It is truly something he, and all of us, can be proud of being a part of making happen O0 But since I'm a big fan of History, let us not forget this forum's beginnings. A man who called himself heneganj founded this site, and ran it for several years before selling it to Christian, who made it grow and become the thing it is today. I'm curious - do any of our older members know what became of heneganj? Did he really just leave everything behind when he moved on? I'd be curious to know what he thinks of what became of his baby now that it's all grown up and ready to leave home! So once again - a big thank you to Christian, heneganj, and everyone who helped make this place into something special. Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Gregoryno6 on July 16, 2017, 03:03:09 AM Thank you so much, Christian!
:joy: A very generous gesture. My cup will take pride of place on top of the bookshelf. Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Alef on August 10, 2017, 04:21:58 PM There is no sutch thing as fractal wiki. There are lots of star war/trek wikis about just whatever. If someone is makeing site like fractalforums.com maybe somene could counsider wiki fractals.
When you do formulas and algorithms the one thing what would be very good would be fractal encyclopedia. Quote A man who called himself heneganj founded this site He will remind in history as heneganj. :hurt:Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Sockratease on August 10, 2017, 10:42:17 PM If someone is makeing site like fractalforums.com maybe somene could counsider wiki fractals. When you do formulas and algorithms the one thing what would be very good would be fractal encyclopedia.... It just so happens that we are building The All New Fractal Forums right now! I'm not sure how a wiki would fit into a forum since a forum allows for everyone to contribute to any repository of knowledge they want. I see them as pretty much the same thing, just in different clothing. But then again, my brain is made entirely out of wood and I sometimes see the world very differently than you flesh and blood types... Regardless, watch for the Public Beta test of Fractal Forums Mark II in the coming weeks! Feel free to make your suggestions there and then O0 Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: 3dickulus on August 11, 2017, 03:45:05 AM A wiki could be used to organize "formal" documentation regarding algorithms, formulas, programs etc. while the forum can serve as... well... a forum where the discussion and debate takes place ???
Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Dinkydau on August 11, 2017, 01:24:46 PM The forum has many times led to experimental ideas that then became established and recognized as relevant and important. A wiki only is not an ideal platform to develop such new ideas, but a wiki can be used to order the information in a much better way. I have noticed that I become more interested in a subject if there's a wiki about it because it's so easy to learn more. I think it's a good idea.
Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Chillheimer on August 11, 2017, 04:37:50 PM @ alef and 3dickulus:
parallel to the new iteration of fractal forums I am working on this encyclopedia about fractals: http://www.fractal.institute/temp/encyclopedia/mathematics/ and I could definitely need some help in there, especially in the mathematics category - so if anyone wants to contribute here and there, just let me know! Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: LMarkoya on August 11, 2017, 11:23:06 PM I too would like to applaud Christians gesture for this years contest and thank him for all the work done here. This place and the people behind it are what relaunched my art, and allowed the work I started with Dali to evolve and take leaps not imagined.
So my sincere thanks to Christian and everyone who has participated in anything here Louis www.louismarkoya.com Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: 3dickulus on August 12, 2017, 03:31:25 AM @LMarkoya I've been a fan of yours ever since I got my first Amiga, your works encouraged me to look deeper, much much deeper
@Chillheimer FF user Adam Majewski has created (I think it was him ???) a wiki with a lot of good stuff like https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Fractals I am not a large math brain like some of you folks here but I would be looking at contributing to and using Adam's wiki because it is already established and growing ;) Could this be integrated/referenced in the new and improved FF instead of starting a new one from scratch? I also like the established wiki format and layout because it's familiar to navigate and easy to use. Your page at http://www.fractal.institute/temp/encyclopedia/mathematics/ looks really nice but there would be a learning curve and registration... imho there's no need to reinvent the wheel. I do hope you view this as constructive criticism as it is in no way meant to be anything else. Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: 3dickulus on August 12, 2017, 05:53:58 AM YES...
Adam Majewski has created a wiki with a lot of good stuff https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Fractals !!! Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Alef on August 12, 2017, 02:50:25 PM There seems that there is something like that. Not full analog of star wars wiki. Its more like repository of knowledge like one generated in fractalforums. When you need some information you can get it. I think fractals and rendering would be perfect. This seems good but more abouth math:
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Fractals/Multibrot_sets http://www.fractal.institute/temp/encyclopedia/mathematics/ Title: Re: 10th Competition - Everyone is a winner Post by: Chillheimer on August 12, 2017, 05:02:24 PM there's also my favourite http://paulbourke.net/fractals/
I personally am no fan of wikis, I prefer a nice look - if you want to reach many people, presentation is everything (of course it has to be easy to navigate, that's a plus for wikis) I've been working on the fractal.institute site for a long time now. it is not only about mathematics but all areas of science. of course I will continue (or actually start) to promote this more than other sites. ;) I hope to link it closer to fractalforums someday, linking articles there with discussions here, driving new traffic here as well as there. But only if people like the idea. Right now there is still a lot of other work to do at fractal forums iteration 2. :) edit: sorry for going so offtopic here. i would split the topic but some posts would become confusing..
